Crime Commission Meeting Madison Heights, Michigan April 14, 2026 A Crime Commission Meeting was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 9:00 AM at City Hall - Lindell Ross Executive Conference Room, 300 W. 13 Mile Rd. CALL TO ORDER Meeting called to order at 9:06 a.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT Martha Covert Alexandra Peterson Anthony Roberts Angela Shukwit Ashley Strunk Council Representative Corey Haines ABSENT Beth Scott Alternate Jeffrey Hilliard Council Representative Alternate Quinn Wright ADDITIONS/DELETIONS None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion made to approve the February 10, 2026 meeting minutes made by Covert, seconded by Roberts. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC None present REPORTS Chief's Report At the City Council Meeting last night we had a couple of presentations. This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and Animal Control week. Police week is May 10th – May 16th this year. We are getting the Drone Unit up in the air and have been doing training with the Fire Department. We are getting ready to deploy the unit. We have been doing some hotel enforcements throughout the City and shut down the Days Inn. They are working on renovations in order to re-open. We have been trying to clean it up and keep the building safe. We had a meeting with the hotel managers in the City and a week later, we revoked the certificate of occupancy for the Days Inn. 1 I have a meeting with Trillium Health Care this week. Henry Ford hospital on Dequindre will be closing and the Trillium Health Care Facility will take over as an inpatient behavioral health and psychiatric hospital. The emergency room will remain open for a year and will eventually close when Trillium is up and running. We are currently in the middle of contract negotiations that currently expire on June 30, 2026. The tentative agreements are being sent to the Unions to get them all settled and signed before the expiration of the current contract. The latest update on staffing is we have a new Records Clerk starting next week as our previous clerk resigned. We also have the Animal Control position posted and are conducting interviews next week. We have three (3) upcoming retirements this summer, Sgt. White, Sgt. Walker and SRO Hirst. The SRO position has been posted. We had our quarterly SRO meeting with Lamphere School District and they are very satisfied with the SRO’s. We currently have two (2) police officers in the background process. If they pass the background process, we will be at full staff. We have (3) officers in the training program at the current moment and one (1) dispatcher in training and one (1) in background. K-9 Harko has been having some medical issues for a while now and will be retiring in a few weeks. Council Report We had our budget meeting during the Council meeting last night and it went smoothly. We will be voting on approving it in May. The Environmental Citizens Committee is having their annual city clean up this weekend from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. They are meeting at City Hall in the parking lot. Lessenger Elementary is hosting their 2nd annual craft show is this Saturday, April 18th. The Department Heads did a fantastic job on the budget projections for the next fiscal year. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 2026 Bike Rodeo / K-9 Demo Some members of the Crime Commission will be in attendance at the Bike Rodeo to help with the bike registrations and handing out the backpacks. Blue Hands for Autism Commission Scott was absent this meeting so we will discuss this topic at the next meeting. Social Media post update Chairperson Peterson emailed over the new social media post ideas for the next 12 months. NEW BUSINESS Board Member update We had our newly appointed board member, Mary Harp resign from the board on March 3, 2026. Angela Shukwit was offered the full voting member position and accepted.
