Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting Madison Heights, Michigan June 12, 2025 A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 6:30 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd. CALL TO ORDER Chair Yu called the meeting to order at 6:42 p.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT Aaron Brown Kate Kapas Jessica Showers Ashley Strunk Alec Yu Council Representative Quinn Wright Also present, staff liaison Heather Hames. Motion made by Showers to excuse Tanner Langdon, Seconded by Brown. All ayes. Motion passed unanimously. ABSENT Rebecca Chambliss Student Delegate (Madison) Colton Chambliss APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Minutes of May 22, 2025 Motion made by Strunk to approve the minutes of May 22, 2025, Seconded by Showers. All ayes. Motion passed unanimously. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC No one present wishing to speak. COMMITTEE UPDATES 2. Paradise Eve Summary The Paradise Eve event was very well attended. Looking forward to doing the event again in the future with more lantern options. Noted also that more people will be needed at clean up in the future. This event will happen again in 2026. 3. Juneteenth Scholarship Adding disclaimer to flyer and online form. Promoting at Juneteenth event, on social media and with paper flyers. 4. Arts & Pride 1  Yard signs are now available. 5. Adaptive Game Night, July 2025 Adaptive Game Night will take place on Tuesday July 29 at the Madison Heights Public Library from 6 pm - 8 pm. Will promote on social media pages and with paper flyers. Motion made by Showers to approve up to $125 to purchase materials and refreshments for the Adaptive Game Night, Seconded by Brown. All ayes. Motion passed unanimously. 6. Rev'n in the Heights Grant approved for $5,000 from the Madison Heights Community Foundation for Rev'n in the Heights. Seeking sponsors. Moving forward with Lego group to attend the event. NEW BUSINESS 7. Sanctuary City Inquiry Discussed. No action taken. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7:54 p.m. 2
