A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at
6:30 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd.
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Yu called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m.

Motion made by Brown to excuse Kapas, Jarvie, Wright, and Strunk, Seconded by Langdon. All
ayes, motion passed unanimously.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Minutes of March 19, 2026
Motion made by Brown to approve the minutes of March 19, 2026, Seconded by
Langdon. All ayes, motion passed unanimously.
MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
No one present wishing to speak.
WORK PLAN ITEMS
2. Adaptive Programs and Community Resources
a. Adaptive Programs - Next dates for Adaptive Game Nights are scheduled for June 11,
youth 15 and under and August 13 for teen and adult 16 and older. Two Sensory
Movie Days are planned for July 8 at 4 pm and July 18 at 2 pm.

b. Community Resources website - no update at this time.
3. Community Celebrations
a. Arts and Pride - June 7, 2026 from 1-5 pm in Civic Center Park, Pavilion B and
Bandshell. At the time of this meeting, sponsors in addition to $500 each from the Arts
Board and HREC include a $500 donation from a local business wishing to remain
anonymous.
Motion made by Brown to approve the following expenses totaling $523.11, Seconded
by Attard. Motion passed unanimously.
$140 total for Karaoke
$300 for Drag Queen Story Time and Sing-a-long
$27.99 for Volunteer Lanyards
$55.12 for Tie Dye supplies
b. Lantern Festival - May 30, 2026 at 5:00 pm in Civic Center Park, Pavilion A and
Bandshell.
There will be more lanterns this year, 300-400 available for the public to decorate at the
event.
Youth ages 6 and up can join the parade of lanterns through the park.
Vendors and food trucks will be on-site.
Currently recruiting cultural dance groups and DJ.
c. Revin' in the Heights – September 19, 2026.
4. Novels + Neighbors Book Club
The Heated Rivalry Party and Book Discussion will take place on June 9, 2026 at 6:30
pm at the Library. Activities will include button making, custom temporary tattoos, and
other crafts as well as snacks, followed by a discussion of the books and hit TV show.
Motion made by Attard to approve $75 towards snacks and supplies for the event,
Seconded by Langdon. All ayes, motion passed unanimously.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
