A Human Relations and Equity Committee Special Meeting was held on Wednesday, May 27,
2026 at 6:30 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd.
CALL TO ORDER
at 6:53 p.m. by Vice Chair Brown.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Minutes of April 16, 2026
Motion made by Council Representative Wright, Seconded by Kapas. Passed
unanimously.
2. Approval of Minutes for May 21, 2026.
Motion made by Council Representative Wright, Seconded by Kapas. Passed
unanimously.
MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
WORK PLAN ITEMS
3. Accessibility and Community Resources

Approve events: Sensory Friendly Movies, Adaptive Game Night, Novels & Neighbors
Heated Rivalry Party & Discussion.
Motion made by Council Representative Wright, Seconded by Kapas. Passed
unanimously.
4. Juneteenth Scholarship entries
Award Juneteenth scholarship to Jordan Aaron in the amount of $619.
Motion made by Kapas, Seconded by Strunk. Passed unanimously.
5. Novels and Neighbors Book Club
Next occurs on June 9.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
6. Arts and Pride
Approve site plan and budget, and allow subcommittee to adjust and change as needed
within budget and time frame.
Motion made by Council Representative Wright, Seconded by Kapas. Passed
unanimously.
HREC reaffirms its commitment to the event as planned.
Motion by Kapas, Seconded by Strunk. Passed unanimously.
Strunk and Council Representative Wright volunteered to work the table for part of the
event. Kapas volunteered to assist with set-up or teardown.
7. Juneteenth Event
Allocate $80-$100.
Motion made by Scott, Seconded by Kapas. Passed unanimously.
8. Paradise Eve Lantern Festival
Approve the subcommittee working with event partners, payment of the DJ invoice
with corrected date for $500, and additional $100 to be used for the event at the
subcommittee's discretion.
Motion made by Kapas, Seconded by Strunk. Passed unanimously.
9. Revin' in the Heights
Work with Pfaff design and budget expenses up to $8000 or the amount raised in
fundraising, whichever is greater.
Motion made by Council Representative Wright, Seconded by Kapas. Passed
unanimously.
Apply for MH Community Foundation $5000 grant.
Motion made by Kapas, Seconded by Scott. Passed unanimously.
