A Library Advisory Board Meeting was held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 6:30 PM at
Library - Event Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Road
CALL TO ORDER at 6:30 p.m. by Chair May.

Motion by Shepherd, supported by Mentzer, to excuse those who gave notice. Passed
unanimously.
ADDITIONS/DELETIONS
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Approve minutes of October 18, 2023
Motion by Mier, supported by Mentzer, to approve minutes of October 18, 2023. Passed
unanimously.
MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
No public present wishing to speak.
REPORTS
2. Friends of the Library
Mentzer and Shepherd reported that acceptance of book donation resumed. The date for
a small, themed Spring Book Sale will be decided at the Friends meeting tomorrow.

3. Library Director Report
Community Engagement Library was hired and is working in Techspace and
developing social media. Library is starting to use an Instagram account and continuing
to work on event development, while also review building safety procedures.
WORK PLAN REVIEW
4. Work Plan Review
A. Review & update members of subcommittees.
Former council representative Bliss was removed administratively from Collaborative
Speaker Series subcommittee. No other changes were made.
B. Collaborative Speaker Series - Subcommittee Chair Aaron (ex-officio), May, Hill,
Student Representative Goatley.
Mental Health Month Speaker Series will consist of five events on Thursdays in May at
6 p.m. Mental health professionals will lead each event.
May 2: Elementary Student Mental Health with Lacey Harris, Licensed Master
Social Worker. Children ages 5-12 and their caregivers Limit: 10 children.
Registration required.
May 9: Teen Wellness with the Youth Wellness Council. No registration
required.
May 16: Question Persuade and Refer Suicide Prevention Training with Sarah
Moore, Licensed Master Social Worker. Limit 25. Ages 18+ only. Registration
required.
May 23: Psychosis & The Effects of Substance with Kimberly Son, Medical
Doctor. Ages 18+ only. No registration required.
May 30: Anxiety and Depression Coping Skills with Amanda May, License
Master Social Work. Ages 18+ recommended. No registration required.
C. Expand Tween Events - Subcommittee Chair Mentzer, Hill, Shepherd, Nagle.
Middle school book discussion is planned for 6-7 p.m. on Mondays, March 18, April
15, and May 13. Advisory board members will attend, but library staff is requested to
moderate. Subcommittee members will work with library staff on books, snacks, and
publicity. Possible future project: recording kids book reviews for social media.

Student Representative Goatley will resign at the end of May when he joins the United States
Naval Academy.
