1. Call to order 7:10

3. Open Public Meetings Act as read by Chairman Stern: “In compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of this
meeting of the DDC was provided by transmitting a copy of the meeting notice to the Madison Eagle and Morris County Daily Record,
posting a copy on the bulletin board at the main entrance of the Hartley Dodge Memorial, and filing a copy in the office of the Clerk,
all on January 3, 2014. This Notice was made available to members of the general public.”

5. Approval of July 2014 minutes
MOTION to approve July 2014 minutes by Pat Rowe. Second by Maureen Byrne. Motioned passed unanimously.
6. Treasurer’s Report: In his absence, Brad left financials for us to review.
7. Mayor’s Report: We have an incredible group of volunteers. It is regrettable that an event failed in the way that it did. The
failure was beyond our control. We should all be proud of how hard we worked.
8. Council Liaison Report: NR
9. Discussion: Clam Bake
Russell summarized failure of caterer and exceptional work of the volunteers. We learned a lot about who comes to summer
events and what they like. Larry suggested that we reduce the ticket price. Mike suggested one tent for simple food
(perhaps run by Rotary or other local group) and 3-4 other stations for specialty foods like clams and pulled pork. Also to
be considered is a new name like Summer Cookout or BBQ to create a distinction from this event. Exploratory committee
to visit Mendham clam bake. The PayPal thing is now ready to go for future events.

11. Committee Reports:
• Sign & Façade: NR
• University Relations: Town Tour next Saturday. Recently had a preliminary U Relations meeting with reps from all three
schools. Planning a “Colleges of Madison Ave Block Party” downtown for college students November 8th and working on the
“Battle of the Bell” in the spring, March 23-29, that will be open to the Madison community.
• Public Improvement Committee: Looking at ways to use the pool of new volunteers. Goal to get some new projects that will
drive traffic downtown.
– Wayfinding Signs update: files have been digitized and are with the fabricator. We are waiting for a cost. Hope to have
them up by BHD.
– Sidewalk Sounds: Laura explained the idea for “the Producer’s Circle” ($10 sponsorship) to encourage a community
buy in. Also at a level that creates access for students to give.
– Sidewalk repairs and Waverly Lot apron: David Maines has a proposal for someone to come in and repair sidewalks
and apron. Looking at bids. Bob Vogel has been told that the pedestrian crossing is the DDC’s main concern. Craig
explained that the list was comprehensive. Mayor Conley asked that the DDC rank and categorize the list to submit to
council.

15. New Business
a. YMCA/DDC Madison Rose Hunt: Volunteers from the Volunteer Party coordinating with YMCA. Nov. 15th.
b. Madison Access Decals
MOTION: to allocate $450 for Madison Access Decals. Motion by Pat Rowe. Second by Mike Kopas.
Discussion: Craig is concerned that this is not “Barrier Free”. It “vouches” that the stores are compliant, when they are not
and we are opening ourselves up to a lawsuit. Mayor responded that this has limited accountability. It is more about
exposure and helping merchants provide better service. Pat explained that the seniors have a list of guidelines for
merchants. Pat will ask borough attorney to look at our liability. Larger suggestion to change name so that it doesn’t include
buzz words such as “Access” that imply “Barrier Free” compliance.
MOTION: to table vote until questions and concerns are addressed. Motion by Pat Rowe. Second by Mayor Conley.
Motion passed unanimously.
c. Gala: Honorarium for Lambs Artillery - $250
MOTION: to allocate $250 for an honorarium for Lambs Artillery for the Art Gala. Maureen. Pat. Passed unanimously
d. Quest vs. Mayor Softball Game: Mayor Conley announced that the Mayor’s team will win this year. Great
event. Live music. Raise money for the American Cancer Society and YMCA Project Community Pride. Oct. 9th. Dodge Field.

6. Treasurer’s Report presented by Brad Cramer. $14,000 from Taste of Madison deposited after tonight’s budget was
calculated. Now we are in the positive. (Report Attached)
7. Mayor’s Report: Council serving popcorn at Clam Bake movie. Ground breaking next Tuesday 9:30am Old Greenville.
8. Council Liaison Report: No report.
9. Discussion: Madison 125
Madison Summer Clam Bake--Aug. 16--Big Barbeque. No soda. More novelty items instead. Outdoor movie. Bounce house.
Obstacle course. Inflatable chair for pictures. Dunk Tank. Popcorn machine. Sky dancer. Air brush tattoos. Spin art.
Carnival games. Shaved ice. Live music. Field day games. Maureen suggested lawn signs. Carla is having the interns ask
pizza places to include flier when delivering take out. Madison pool will permit promotion after July 26th. Posters will be
printed and given to stores to put in windows. Mike suggested that we promote at the MRC snack shack. Firehouse does
not work as a rain site. Looking into ambulance corp.
Flat Madison-- Life sized Flat Madison to be ready soon.
Art Auction Gala -- Madison/Lamb's Artillery & Morgan's Rifle Company can come in “formal wear” and walk around the party.

Discussion: Craig thinks that the organization needs to start discussing how to grow the organization. Brad adds that
as we discuss social media we need to increase our content by growing the span of the organization. In other words,
there isn’t enough to promote to make this investment worth it. Carla reminds us that when she was chair she
brought in Cheryl Ellis, a facilitator for this discussion. Maureen thinks this would be a worthwhile exercise. Laura will
follow up with Cheryl Ellis.
