ANNOUNCEMENT OF NOTICE Statement of Compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act: Betsy Uhlman, Chairperson, opened the meeting as follows: “Let the minutes reflect that adequate notice of this meeting has been provided in the following manner: At the meeting of the Council, held on January 1, 2015, the posted annual calendar of meetings of the Madison Environmental Commission was approved with minor modifications which were submitted to the Borough and posted at the bulletin board at the main entrance of the Hartley Dodge Memorial Building; were sent to the Madison Eagle and the Daily Record; and filed with the Borough Clerk; all in accordance with the ‘Open Public Meetings Act.’” 3. ISSUES FOR DISCUSSION: !$ Grant applications review: Stephan Stocker The MEC voted to approve (Mary Lewis/Clair Whitcomb) the applications for the following grants: $20K grant through Sustainable Jersey for establishment of attraction gardens, signage, reforestation by planting 100 each of five tree types and repair of the Madison Recreation Complex lands; a $12K Madison Open Space grant to reforest the understory there and to contract for a Conservation Management Plan and a $14K grant to enhance the main entrance of the deer exclosure with mature trees and an 8x10’ kiosk to hold a map, educational materials and tools. Also applications for a $1500 ANJEC grant for reducing the destructive effect of road salt in the area and a $1500 Rotary grant to add 15’ trees to the entrance and shrubs was approved. A related project is Marlena Fass’s Central Ave School educational vegetable garden proposal to the PTO." 2. G,=)',H"G,A-=,5-"OA;8/-: The Feb. 25 informational meeting on the Pilgrim Pipeline hosted by Mayor Conley at Madison High School should be promoted on the MEC/Sustainable Madison email list. 3. Q'--5"T8,': The MEC voted to not hold the Green Fair in April and instead focus on awareness programs to promote the shoe drive, the reduction of plastic bags and the creation of cloth bags. Other ideas to promote textile recycling with “clinics” to make bags from T-shirts at Madison storefronts. U$ Other New Business: Pat Rowe offered to ask Mike Piano about the pesticides in the borough utility’s telephone poles, as referenced in BeyondPesticides.org." MEETING ADJOURNED.
