ANNOUNCEMENT OF NOTICE Statement of Compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act: Betsy Uhlman, Chairperson, opened the meeting as follows: “Let the minutes reflect that adequate notice of this meeting has been provided in the following manner: At the meeting of the Council, held on January 1, 2015, the posted annual calendar of meetings of the Madison Environmental Commission was approved with minor modifications which were submitted to the Borough and posted at the bulletin board at the main entrance of the Hartley Dodge Memorial Building; were sent to the Madison Eagle and the Daily Record; and filed with the Borough Clerk; all in accordance with the ‘Open Public Meetings Act.’” 3. MINUTES: The minutes of the meeting of April 22, 2014 were approved without changes. ISSUES FOR DISCUSSION: 1. %)&*-)L"%)0A&)(A"C0.'2A: Madison passed an ordinance to prohibit unregulated pipelines in the borough, although the plan shown by Pilgrim Pipeline puts the pipelines across Division Ave. on the Chatham side. Pilgrim Pipeline is proceeding and will submit an application to the NJDEP. The SSGS has concluded that the Buried Valley Aquifer, Madison’s water source, is one of seven interconnected valley aquifers. This makes aquifer pollution more dangerous. 2. Progress on MRC projects: Stephan Stocker reported on the MRC committee—the playground and sledding hill are not progressing. The Conservation Management Plan for the wetlands portion is due at the end of June. A moth survey was conducted and forty found. April 21-25 the NJ Tree Foundation planted 600 trees; on April 28, 200 plants: swamp roses, rhododendrons, ground cherries and apricots, !" " werw planted. May 29 is the HS Day of Service and students will set up a milkweed spot or monarch garden along the access road. On June 6, Trails Day, Jim Burnet is organizing a walk in the wetlands area and Stephan will talk on its restoration. 3. M-AA("F')-"'&2A-('2)<A=: The MEC participated in Healthy Kids Day, a two hour event, at the Y, April 25. The recycling game went well, reaching forty kids and their parents. At Arbor Day on May 2, the MEC had a booth next to FMST. We offered T- shirt bags to residents. The shoe drive concluded at the Y and schools on April 30 and the pickup was May 15 from Missy’s. The drive generated over $500. The MEC decided to reward the participating schools more generously than the collections indicated, to encourage participation next year, and to use the balance of the funds on a sustainable project associated with the new Sustainable Schools initiative through Sustainable Jersey. 4. 42?A-"3A>"+:=)(A==: Judy Honohan volunteered to pick up the 4 composters for a small sale from Bergen Co. and arrange their distribution.
