MADISON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Regular Meeting – June 10, 2014 Attending: Co-Chairmen John Solu and Janet Foster; Members, Alberta Marcy and William VanRyzin; Recording Secretary Laurie Hagerich. Absent: Members John Forte, Joseph Longo, David Luber, Carmine Toto and Margaret Weisgerber; and Council Liaison Robert Catalanello. Marilyn Musielski, a member of the public, was also present as an observer. Since there was no quorum, the meeting was held informally and no action items were considered. The May 13, 2014, minutes were considered and approved as written. Follow Up: Sign and Façade applications update: Coccia Realty: Photos were shown of the proposed new signage for Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate/Coccia Realty. Bright lime green color was felt to be inappropriate for the Downtown Historic District. James Building/Home Sweet Home: Photos were also shown of façade improvements after removal of the Emerson Elliott sign, which uncovered the original building façade and columns. The new tenant, proprietor of Home Sweet Home, is very pleased with the increase in her business after moving from Chatham. Madison Karate is another new business opening at 71 Kings Road. For Discussion: Update on Acoterian by Morris County: The County of Morris is almost finished with its work on updating MHPC’s Inventory of Historic Sites and has asked for input from MHPC in identifying one or two streetscapes or neighborhoods established after World War II to be included in the survey. Some suggestions were Ardsleigh/Rosemont/Page, Anthony Drive/Wayne Boulevard, Knollwood section, Laurel Way. The County also requested a copy of the report on the Tuttle Oak Historic District application, which Ms. Foster will try to locate.
