Budget Report: Summary on meeting agenda.
We welcomed Emma Tagariello & noted that Gwen Riddick will serve on
MAASA temporarily. Both women are parental leave replacements for
Vanessa Morgenthaler (Student Assistance Counselor) and Allison
Bardon (Madison Chatham Coalition Coordinator) respectively.
Highlighted this month:
-MHS PTO will receive $150 for their Tricky Tray (in lieu of
supporting the dance which would have been a donation of $500).
-Voted to APPROVE request to spend a total of $1200 for
Mindfulness/Lifeskills for the 7th grade health class (total of 8 classes
will be held during the month of February)
OLD BUSINESS
Signs about Underage Drinking
-Frank Iannarone will list what’s forbidden and be in touch with
the police department
-John Hoover will work the Borough end re: legal and approval for
placement of signs
-Tricia Armstrong will research public spaces to help determine
number of signs/placement if approved
Yoga/Lifeskills - second class happened yesterday
Panel/Town Hall Event Discussion on Marijuana
-John is waiting on an email from Kelly Loofburrow (Grant
Coordinator for the Municipal Alliance Committee of the Chathams) to
learn more about the event so we can consider inclusion in it.
-No date for the event has been scheduled yet.
NEW BUSINESS
MHS Tricky Tray
- Set to happen on 3/7 from 6 to 10pm.
-MAASA will be tabling and sponsoring a basket containing a yoga
mat, stress ball, educational and other items. Do not have time to order
anything else with the date quickly approaching.
-Tricia will reach out to Foundations Yoga in Madison to see if
they will donate a gift certificate.
Arrive Alive - Lindsay reached out to try and schedule for Bottle Hill Day
Rose City Mindful Parenting Classes - taught by Maria Sanders and
scheduled for March 13, 20 & 27 at MHS in Conference Room A.
Youth Mental Health First Aid - connected to Mental Health Awareness
month. This workshop will be for adults (18+) who work with youth.
Aiming for 5/3 and hoping to have it at the Kirby gym. The Hubbard
room at the Y only comfortably fits 15 people for this type of training.
The books are expensive (if we have extra funds consider allocating
money for them).
Other Items
-Partnership with the Elks (John) - They are a national
organization with hundreds of thousands of members. The Order
spends over $80m every year on benevolent programs and our local
lodge is open to partnering on creating a substance abuse program.
- Marijuana: (Frank) - With marijuana legalization as a
potentiality, it’s important for communities to be informed. Recently
William Paterson University formed a Cannabis Institute to provide
evidence-based scientific and economic information on topics related to
cannabis, as well as opioid drugs and other substances.
-Sticker Shock (Frank) - They went two places and it went well.
There were fewer girls involved than usual, but there was a conflict with
a very popular leadership conference.
Next meeting March 12th at 12:30 p.m. at the Dept. of Health
