OPEN SPACE, RECREATION AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MINUTES – MARCH 13, 2012 NEXT MEETING: To be determined PRESENT: A. Baillie, D. Carver, C. Coultas, L. Ellis, C. Kellogg, M. Honohan ELECTION OF OFFICRS: A, Melissa Honohan elected Chair for 2012 B. Cathie Coultas elected Secretary for 2012 REPORT ON LAND CONSERVANCY RALLY: A. Melissa Honohan reported on the Land Conservancy Rally she attended. B. Focus was on Land acquisition but other subjects discussed also. C. Several attended from Madison D. Report from Chester on trail project. Not land acquisition but good Community involvement. 1. Might be a possibility for Madison to consider 2. Suggest that Chester colleagues give us a presentation on their project. E. Foundations presented also – as always there is concern about stewardship of funded projects. DAY OF SERVICE PROJECTS: A. DOS scheduled on June 1st. B. Livesey Park Project submitted by Debbie Mantone, a teacher from Kings Road School. Deer fence needed to protect plants she wants to have planted that day. PTO and Garden Club of Madison may be able to help with funds for the fence and plants. GREEN FAIR: Event scheduled for May 3rd with funds raised going to the Environmental Commission. LAND CONSERVANCY: $2500 budgeted for the Conservancy this year. They have been very helpful in any open space planning in the past. UPDATES AND SUGGESTIONS: A. Put map of Madison’s Historic Sites on Rosenet. B. Ask Parks Committee to look into new signs for Parks. Many need repair. C. Would be ideal to connect Belleau Woods to North Street area. Funding for the Pumping Station budgeted for 2012. D. The Open Space Committee discussed ways to promote open space use. Suggest that the Parks Committee and the Open Space Committee work together on Parks projects. Suggest a study of all open space. 1. Parks Committee do parkland assessment. 2. Recreation Committee do fields and assess needs. E. Green groups should work together on assessing use of open space - Parks, Open Space, FMST, STMB and Garden Club of Madison.
