OPEN SPACE, RECREATION AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MINUTES – MAY 9, 2012 NEXT MEETING: June 13, 2012 , 7:30 PM in the Committee Room at Hartley Dodge Memorial Building. Please notify the Chair if unable to attend. PRESENT: D. Carver, C. Coultas, M. Durham, M. Honohan, C. Kellogg, R. Poeter CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 7:35 PM. Open Public Meeting statement was read. MINUTES: Motion made and passed to accept the April minutes with addition. Kellogg/Carver GREEN FAIR/MAY DAY REPORT: A. Green Fair very successful and well attended. B. Survey taken – 18 participated. 93% Open Space important and would like further dialogue. C. May Day – between 800 and 900 volunteers EMAIL ADDRESSES: A. All on the Committee should have a Rosenet address B. The Chair will investigate C. Could put minutes on Rosenet. D. All who are appointed to the Committee should have a training session. COMMUNITY GARDENS: Deer fence will be erected this week LIVESEY PARK: Mike Kopas from the STMB will check out the health of the trees. NEW BUSINESS: A. How do all the Community groups work and what is their mission. 1. Need to be aware of all the mission statements so we can determine how to best work together. B. Sustainability group has focus all of us could benefit from. (Sustainability, Environmental and Borough umbrella group) C. Open Space Borough owned remediation sites 1. Bayley Ellard and MRC both have contaminated sites. MRC may have been taken care of. 2. Barbara Heslins-Davis from the NJ Land Conservancy is a good source of information as the Conservancy did the Open Space plan for Madison. 2. John Wagar also a good source for County information. 3. Need to find out what other groups are doing.  4. Look into a web site where all the groups could have input. D. New Farm Bill will shift focus from private to public land. Dave Carver will contact Don Mulland Evan Madlinger of the Dept. of Agriculture. E. Sediment is reported back in the Madison Commons pond. Respectfully submitted, Cathie Coultas, Secretary
