Madison Senior Center Senior Center Advisory Committee Agenda – April 14, 2016 Due to TriTown 55+ Focus Group there was no agenda. Madison Senior Center Senior Center Advisory Committee Minutes for Meeting April 14, 2016 Present: John Hoover (Chair), Jennifer Prichard ( Montclair State), Ruth A. Barrett, Kaye Shaler, Lou Gaburo, Lena Crasto, Sandra Fielo, Jeffrey Paxton, Susan Sheeley, Marlene Dolan, Phyllis Flemming, Edna Ierley-Byrne (Madison Sr. Center), Phyllis Nunn Absent – Bill List, Peggy Donnelly, Astri Baillie Minutes They were approved and seconded. Minutes accepted. Senior Center Report Edna reported on the American Society on Aging 2016 Conference which was held in Washington, D.C. in March. There was much discussion on age- friendly communities and the concept of “aging in place.” Other topics discussed at the conference were center on global views with a major focus on healthy living for people of all ages. It was stated that at least 10,000 people every day are turning age sixty-five and because of the huge numbers this has been called an “Epidemic of Aging.” Other focuses were on creating communities for all ages, collaborating with other communities, making our homes and living environments safe and accessible and, of course, dealing with “isolated” clients and residents living independently. One of the ways to keep our community, residents and government on track is through “gentle pressure relentlessly applied.” New Business Jennifer Pritchard from Montclair led a TriTown55+ Focus Group with our Senior Center Advisory Committee members. This was a confidential discussion and will not be reported in the minutes. The reports from all the focus groups held will be presented at a later date and with the time and place yet to be determined. As a result of this TriTown55+Focus Group discussion the Committee Reports will be delivered at our next meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 3:30.
