SHADE TREE MANAGEMENT BOARD Borough of Madison Madison, New Jersey 07940 Minutes of March 20, 2014 Meeting The Shade Tree Management Board held its regular monthly meeting on March 20, 2014 in the second Floor Committee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey. Pledge of Allegiance Call to Order Alan Andreas called the meeting to order and read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act. Present: Alan Andreas, Steve Miller, Penny Garman, Gene Cracovia, Lauren Hagerstrom and Mike Kopas. Also present: Absent: Christine Hammitt , Nancy Bruce and Vince Licari. Also Absent: David Maines Minutes The Board approved the February 20, 2014 minutes. The Board addressed the following items of business: Budget Report Approximately $30,000 is currently encumbered. Council Liaison Report No report. Public Comments and Correspondence 20 Vinton: Resident requests that the Borough plant street trees to replace the once that she was asked to take down. Although the Board agrees that there is adequate space for trees, it will be recommended after a determination of potential borough road reconstruction. Borough Tree Maintenance Status Honor Tree won tree pruning bid at $75/hour Tree King won tree removal bid  There are currently 44 trees on the tree removal list. Tree Planting Update Cedar Hill Nurseries won the tree planting bid. In substitution of the specified seedless sweet gum variety, Cedar Hill provided pricing on Liquidambar Blush Burgundy. The substitution was agreed to. The locusts on Waverly Place were also discussed due to the lifting of the pavers. It was agreed that a discussion would be initiated with the DDC about the plans to replace the pavers. TCC One application is pending One was reviewed at 7 Elm. FMST Future projects of the Friends include: tree planting at the Habitat for Humanity homes at Strickland and Orchard; Fund-raising letters will be th mailed and enclosed in Borough electric bills, distribution of free saplings with Drew being the distribution site (April 9 ); Clean up and planting along the Danforth exit of the Bayley Ellard fields. Parks Advisory Committee th Dog park committee made its second presentation to Parks. On April 14 , it will present to the Council Executive Committee. Central Green: project with Rotary to remove knotweed using non toxic methods. Cole Park: renovation of fountain will begin in April weather permitting Forge Building (Luke Miller House): Working with Historic Preservation and volunteer contractors to repair and restore the building James Park: Working on plan to start cherry tree replacement Old Business Summary matrix of the Management Plan was reviewed. Assignments were reviewed. New Business Based on the work being done by volunteers at the Housing Authority property along Chateau Thierry, the need for safety was reviewed and discussed.
