Minutes of April 24, 2014 Meeting
The Shade Tree Management Board held its regular monthly meeting at 7:00 pm on April 24, 2014 in the second floor
Trustees Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey.
Pledge of Allegiance
Call to Order
Steve Miller called the meeting to order and read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act.
Present: Steve Miller, Penny Garman, Nancy Bruce, Christine Hammitt and Lauren Hagerstrom.
Also present: Paul Allocco.
Absent: Mike Kopas, Vince Licari, Alan Andreas, Gene Cracovia and David Maines.
Minutes
The Board voted to postpone approval of the March 20, 2014 minutes until the May 15 meeting (more Board members will
be present).
The Board addressed the following items of business:
Budget Report
The 2014 budget was increased from $101,850 LY to $108,205.
Council Liaison Report
No report.
Public Comments and Correspondence
Homeowners at 17 Fairwood are complaining about a private tree at 3 Glendale that is leaning over the street.
Penny asked for a species suggestion for a tree at 10 Lathrop, a new site for a new house. The builder wants a Beech
removed and has offered to replace it with two trees.
Borough Tree Maintenance Status
Cedar Hill was not able to deliver 45 of 105 trees and, as a result, lost the contract. Barton Nursery took over and the trees
are due May 6. The arborists will evaluate the trees upon delivery.
Nineteen homeowners rejected new street trees affecting twenty-three placements.
Hamilton Street and Maple Avenue were pruned.

Parks Advisory Committee
The fountain restoration at Cole Park will begin in May.
High school students will plant periwinkle at Luke Miller on May 30, the High School Service Day.
Rotary and SLAP will help to remove knotweed at Summerhill and Central Green.
Vince will decide which cherry trees need to be removed in James Park.
2014 Management Plan Goals
Steve will review the need for ArborPro.
Old Business
Two street trees will be planted at 20 Vinton Road to replace two private trees the homeowner was asked to remove.
New Business
May 3 is Arbor Day in Madison at the Hartley Dodge Memorial Building.
The Landmark Tree list needs to be updated for Bottle Hill Day.
Penny suggested that, next year, someone else can manage the tree planting project.
The Board adjourned at 8:30 pm.
