SHADE TREE MANAGEMENT BOARD Borough of Madison Madison, New Jersey 07940 Minutes of March 19, 2015 Meeting The Shade Tree Management Board held its regular monthly meeting on March 19, 2015 in the second Floor Committee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey. Call to Order Steve Miller called the meeting to order and read the Sunshine Law for compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act. Present: Penny Garman, Christine Hammitt, Steve Miller, Lauren Hagerstrom, Gene Cracovia and Vince Licari. Also present: Paul Allocco. Absent:Nancy Bruce, Alan Andreas, Mike Kopas andDavid Maines. Pledge of Allegiance Minutes The Board approved the February 18, 2015 minutes. The Board addressed the following items of business: Budget Report The final 2015 budget approval is pending. Council Liaison Report No report. Public Comments and Correspondence Penny reportedthat the street trees at 10 Pomeroy should not be affected by the upcoming construction and the homeowner will make sure they receive the required protection. The trees themselves are not great and Vince should look at them. Borough Tree Maintenance Status No report. Spring Tree Planting Letters will be mailed to homeowners in the next two weeks. Penny distributed door hangers and will email the planting lists in preparation for the arrival of the trees. All of the soil needs to be amended with the prescribed recommendation at two pyramidal hornbeam planting sites at the Public Safety Complex. TCC Three cases were reviewed in March. FMST Five hundred seedlings will be planted by the New Jersey Tree Foundation in the MRC deer exclosure on April 20. The yearly fundraising letter will be mailed in March and April. Steve Stocker will have the soil at the MRC tested, including for salt. Parks Advisory Committee Vince will order the two replacement James Park cherry trees. At Memorial Park, a proposed hockey shed will measure 14’x32’. An open space grant of $75,000 will pay to level the field. The Dog Park plan is on hold. Old Business Vince and Mike will assess the trees affected by the upcoming Ridgedale Avenue construction. The Borough will pay for removals and replacements. New Business The Board has changed the May 21 meeting to 7pm in the Trustee’s Room. Arbor Day is set for May 2. The Board adjourned at 9:40 am. Minutes submitted by Christine Hammitt.
