Minutes  of  Shade  Tree  Management  Board     Borough  of  Madison     Madison,  New  Jersey  07940   Minutes  of  May  19,  2016  Meeting     The  Shade  Tree  Management  Board  held  its  regular  monthly  meeting  on  May  19,   2016  at  8:00  am  in  the  Committee  Room  of  Hartley  Dodge  Memorial,  50  Kings  Road,   Madison,  NJ.       Call  to  Order   Gene  Cracovia  called  the  meeting  to  order  at  8:05AM   Present:  Gene  Cracovia,  Lauren  Hagerstrom,  Penny  Garman,  Vince  Licardi,  Alice   Wade,  Nancy  Bruce,  Stephen  Miller   Also  Present:    Paul  Allocca   Absent:  Alan  Andreas,  Mike  Kopas  and  David  Maines     Minutes   April  meeting  minutes  will  be  distributed  subsequent  to  this  meeting.     The  Board  addressed  the  following  items  of  business:     Public  Comments:   There  were  no  public  comments     Borough  Tree  Status   Penny  reviewed  procedures  for  spring  tree  planting,  highlighting  areas  needing   improvement.  A  new  planting  coordinator  will  be  needed  for  2017.    The  Board   discussed  options  to  improve  the  procedure.    A  meeting  with  DPW  will  be  scheduled   to  review  this  year’s  experience  and  to  discuss  responsibilities  moving  forward.     TCC   One  new  case  from  Drew  -­‐  comments  due  6/7.     Budget   Budget  approved  at  $117,650.    $112,471  remaining.  $45,015  spent  with  Tree  King   and  Honor.    We  have  not  paid  for  spring  trees  yet.     Parks  Advisory  Committee   Committee  reviewed  recent  complaints  concerning  park  maintenance  issues.    High   School  Day  of  Service  coming  up  will  complete  unfinished  projects  from  May  Day.     FMST   Considering  using  donated  funds  to  establish  an  arboretum  in  Summerhill  Park.     Old  Business   -­‐Arbor  Day  successful  despite  rain  and  indoor  location.  FMST  gave  away  8  trees  to   residents.   -­‐Heritage  House  meeting  held  4/27  –  additional  study  groups  are  being  formed.   -­‐NJ  Tree  Conservatory  looking  for  comments  on  draft  of  eliminating/controlling   invasive  plants  on  the  hill  at  MRC   -­‐Site  Issues:  Train  station  ash  tree  is  stressed,  Mike  to  talk  with  Barlett  on  options.   Kings  Rd/KRE  zelkcova’s  –  STMB  to  make  recommendation  for  alternatives.    Board   agreed  there  is  no  need  to  replant  zelkcova’s.    There  is  interest  in  planting  behind   sidewalk  -­‐  need  to  review  site  details.     New  Business   -­‐Ash  trees  –  Penny  to  provide  location  of  211  Madison  ash  trees  to  inspect  during   Windshield  Survey.  .    It  is    too  late  for  Madison  to  treat  trees  this  year.   -­‐New  Windshield  surveys  due  7/1     Board  adjourned  9:30am.   Minutes  submitted  by  Lauren  Hagerstrom
