Shade Tree Management Board Madison, NJ 07940 Minutes of August 16, 2018 The Shade Tree Management Board held its regularly scheduled meeting at 8:00 AM on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in the Committee Room of Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison, NJ. Call to Order by Chairman Gene Cracovia. Reading of the Sunshine Law. Present: Gene Cracovia, Brian Monaghan, Vince Licari, Paul Allocco, Alice Wade, and Ken O’Brien Absent: Joan Maccari, Tom Salaki, Nancy Bruce, Judy Honohan, Carmela Vitale, and Allen Andreas Guests: Frank Russo Minutes: July 2018 minutes approved as submitted. Public Contacts/Correspondence: Ken O’Brien said that Honor will trim the Sycamores in front of the funeral home on Main Street as early as next week. Council Liaison report: Carmela was not present and therefore there was no council update. Borough Tree Status: Ken O’Brien reiterated his opinion that the trees on Main Street in the downtown area be trimmed and shaped. It was agreed that Honor should be notified. TCC: There are three new TCC cases: 1) 100 Rosedale Proposal is to knock down current house and build two new ones. It was deemed that the town trees should be protected. 2) 130 Greenwood- Large black walnut will need protecting. 3) 16 Maple A sub division will not endanger any town trees. Parks Advisory Committee: Paul reported that discussion are continuing regarding the Dog Park. A meeting is scheduled for September 9, 2018 with the Township pool committee. Current plans would place the park between the pool and ice rink. He also noted that the Park Committee has been in talks with Green Goats to clear the Summerhill Arboretum. Total cost would be $14,200 over a two year period. Paul said nothing is definite. Treasurer’s Report: 2018 Budget $118,150.00 Expended this month: Honor Tree $475 YTD Expended $77,968.41 Encumbered 2018 $25,105 Unexpended $40,181.59 Old / New Business: Nothing was reported. ArborPro: Rich Wolowicz is conducting database verification by sampling about 600 trees. Total cost will be $1000. Construction Tree Protection Ordinance: Construction on Laurel Way is in violation of the town ordinance regarding town trees. Frank was asked to look into the situation. JCP&L A meeting is set for September 9th to discuss the line clearing with the affected residences. Meeting adjourned at 9am Submitted by Brian Monaghan
