Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee Meeting July 12, 2012 Interim Chair, Heather Shepherd, called the meeting to order at 7:38pm. The Chair read the STATEMENT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS ACT “In compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of this meeting of the Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee Meeting was provided by transmitting a copy of the meeting notice to the Madison Eagle and Morris County Daily Record, posting a copy on the bulletin board at the main entrance of the Hartley Dodge Memorial, and filing a copy in the office of the Clerk, all on July 2, 2012. This notice was made available to members of the general public.” Roll Call – The following acknowledged their presence: Heather Shepherd Bob Vogel Harriet Honigfeld Jim Burnet Betsy Uhlman (via conference call) Ben Wolkowitz (via conference call) Public: Lisa Ellis SUSTAINABLE MORRISTOWN. Heather met with Paul Miller, Sustainability Coordinator of Morristown, and gave a report on Sustainable Morristown. Paul is happy to meet anytime with our group. There was a discussion on the possibility of reaching out to the Dodge Foundation for a possible grant to fund a part time Sustainability Coordinator for Madison. WORKPLAN FOR SUSTAINABLE JERSEY SILVER CERTIFICATION. a) Anti-idling. A discussion of possible plans for anti-idling was held. Recognizing the difficulties of police enforcement, the committee will instead focus on education materials to be distributed through the Borough website and school distributions. Lisa Ellis and Bob Vogel agreed to work with the Police and other organizations on this. b) Other action items were discussed with Heather updating the workplan as appropriate (copy attached). FUNDRAISING Heather showed an example of a stuffable reusable shopping bag as a fundraiser. Lisa and Jim will think of ways to engage the DDC. Betsy stated she raised $1,000 through the sale of light bulbs with the Project Porchlight program. OUTREACH Heather will reach out to Paul Miller to see if he will attend a joint Sustainable Madison/DDC/Chamber meeting later in the year. Lisa and Jim will bring the topic to the DDC. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:57pm.
