Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee Meeting November 14, 2012 Chair, Betsy Uhlman called the meeting to order at 7:35pm. The Chair read the STATEMENT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS ACT “In compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act, adequate notice of this meeting of the Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee Meeting was provided by transmitting a copy of the meeting notice to the Madison Eagle and Morris County Daily Record, posting a copy on the bulletin board at the main entrance of the Hartley Dodge Memorial, and filing a copy in the office of the Clerk, all on July 2, 2012. This notice was made available to members of the general public.” Roll Call – The following acknowledged their presence: Heather Shepard Harriet Honigfeld Betsy Uhlman Steven Eget Ben Wolkowitz Bob Vogel Public: Robert Morse Ellen Kranefuss MINUTES FOR JULY 12 MEETING WERE APPROVED. NO MAIL. GENERAL DISCUSSION • Green Forum – I snow rescheduled for Jan 24th at Drew Ehinger Center o Will be moderated by Mike Kopas o Mayor Conley will speak o All residents invited and as well as Borough Administrators o Sustainable Madison sponsoring with several green groups o There will be 3 15-20 min round table sessions with subject matter experts at each table o Next planning meeting is Dec 14th 12pm Whole Foods o Community Asset Mapping - If we want to provide Borough map to show at forum get request to Bob Vogel by Dec 12th • Sustainable Jersey – The submission dates may be moved up to June 30th 20-13. Betsy will find out more • Sustainable Madison Workplan  o SRTS Kick off meeting Dec 11th with Dr. Rossi o Resolution on Complete Streets done – just needs to be written up o Fleet inventory – still need to estimate mileage – Jim Burnet is overseeing. Steven Eget mentioned that we can use generic mileage data from FHWA. Once the inventory is done we should send to Steven Eget so he can include in the GHG o If we want to launch a green business program with the DDC we could secure extra points. o Conservation Easements – we need to digitize/record by the end of the year- this is on track o Waste Audit – Composting/reducing trash should save us money on hauling contracts. One waste hauling contract with school, one with rest of borough. o Ben and Ellen looking into composting with High School based on Chatham experience. $25,000 composter, 30% less waste. Behavior change is an important element o Rain garden – moving along o Green grounds – May be legislation from state , no synthetic pesticides on playing fields. Need to reach out to Soccer Head (Bill Beaman) and Little League and Soccer to find out if they are in compliance. o March 2nd is the Sustainable Landscape meeting summit o No Action on Recycling, Lead Pain, Grass Cut it and Leave it or energy mgmt/tracking at schools. Recallibrate points at next meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm.
