public.”

Gene Cracovia, Resident/Regular Member
Peter Fried, Resident/Regular Member
Joan Maccari, MEC Representative/Regular Member
Marilyn Musielski, Resident/Regular Member
Prospective SMAC member Angelique Devost also attended this meeting.
May 14 minutes were unanimously approved.
360 of the 690 points we submitted for silver certification were approved as of the first review
by Sustainable Jersey.
Review of Actions:
Madison Borough clerk will provide a signed copy of the Green Team Ordinance required for
certification. Education and Outreach will be updated. We will not be able to provide
documentation for ‘Greening Green Fair’. Documentation needed for Extreme Temperature
Plan. Remove Pollinator gardens from the Community Garden item. Innovation Item #3 will be
the Pollinator Gardens. Buy Fresh, Buy Local on MEC webpage? … on Rosenet? We will not be
submitting the Historic Preservation Item at this time, because our Master Plan documentation
does not meet SJ requirements. We need a current flyer for the composters. We need an
updated community visioning resolution; will connect with Jim Burnet and Maureen Byrne to
bring this before the council. Several of the actions need proof of distribution memos to
various staff and officials before the actions will be approved by Sustainable Jersey.
Angelique Devost reported on the ANJEC disposable plastics forum she attended on July 23 in
Lambertville. Her notes are available as a separate page.
Peter Fried reported on the status of anaerobic digesters in Madison. He will coordinate with
Madison Environmental Commission, SMAC, Shade Tree Management Board, Open Space
Recreation and Historic Preservation committee. Sustainable Gold Star status for Madison is
expected to be a 3 year process.
September 8 is the next deadline for submission of revised action items. November 17 is the
ANJEC awards luncheon. It was suggested that we make a presentation of our certification to
the Borough Council in January 2020.
It was suggested that we should submit write ups of SMAC news in local papers.
Long term goals:
Light pollution action item
Invite the board of education to be more involved in our work
Invite the town administration to attend our meetings.
Reminder to everyone to try and have updated action items ready for submission by August
meeting, so that we can submit them by September 8.
The next meeting of Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee (SMAC) will be August 20, 2019
at 1:00 pm. Reminder that at least 6 meetings per year are required by ordinance.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:52 pm.
Minutes respectfully submitted by Joan Maccari.
