City of Malden Massachusetts Board of Appeal 215 Pleasant Street Malden, Massachusetts 02148 Telephone 781-397-7100 Minutes – February 15, 2023 The Malden Board of Appeal held a public hearing Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 6:30 pm at Malden City Hall, 215 Pleasant St., Room #106 Herbert L Jackson Council Chambers, Malden, MA This meeting was recorded by Urban Media Arts formerly known as MATV Roll call: Cramer Sullivan Sherwin King Bilgen Chu Khodaverdian Motion was made by King seconded by Bilgen to approve the minutes of from January 18, 2023 Sullivan – yes, King –yes, Sherwin – abstain, Bilgen – yes. Cramer – yes – minutes approved Petition 23-001 by James Furlong and Dale Chin for a variance of Title 12, Chapter 12, Code of the City of Malden as amended through December 8, 2022 – Section 12.16.010 Table of Intensity Regulations – Specifically Rear and Side Setbacks as per Plans RES-050433-2022 at the property known as and numbered 82 Beltran Street, Malden, MA and also known by City Assessor’s Parcel ID #010-053-304 All statutory requirements have been met. This petition is properly before the Board being represented by Timothy Burke, Architect, 122 Berkley St., Boston, MA The Board received a letter from the Historical Commission regarding the historical significance of this property. This letter was read into the record of the public hearing and will be incorporated into the decision rendered upon the grant of a variance. Petition 23-001 was previously before the board on November 4, 2020 as petition 20-013, which was granted but expired. Petitioner is seeking a variance to build a handicap accessible rear deck and is seeking relief of the rear and side setbacks. Margaret Grossi of 88 Beltran St and Councilor Ryan O’Malley spoke in favor of this petition. No one appeared in opposition. Motion by Bilgen to grant variance – topography of the land, no opposition from the abutters, was 2nd by King to include the Historical Commission requirement s that the existing columns of the rear porch and roof/roofline shall be maintained. VOTE: Sullivan – yes, Sherwin – yes, King – yes, Bilgen – Yes, Cramer – yes All in Favor Petition 23-001 is granted. Motion by King 2nd by Sullivan to adjourn – all in favor Adjourn 6:56
