CITY OF MALDEN MASSACHUSETTS Sign Design Review Committee Meeting Minutes Date: March 14, 2024 9:01 AM – 9:19 AM Members in Attendance: Craig Spadafora, Chair Nelson Miller Yem Lip Members not in Attendance: Deb Burke Ari Taylor Also in Attendance: Dave Morse Jim Tuxbury Gia Finocchiaro Meeting Called to Order: Chair Spadafora called the meeting to order at 9:01am Approval of Minutes Unable to approve minutes from last meeting-no quorum. Updates from Compliance: 1. 9 Whiteman St – JUNIOR ’S AUTO BODY – They had a banner up since August 2023. They were approved for a sign at that time but never put the approved sign up. They were advised that the permit would expire. The owner claimed that he had issues with the Sign Company. He straightened out the problem and the sign has been installed. 2. 8 Pleasant St – PHO BISTRO – Has a banner out front. They were advised that banners are prohibited, and it would have to be removed. They have not taken it down after several warnings. Tickets issued. The following designs were considered for approval:  1.) The committee reviewed a sign application for New Craft Collision located at 388 Eastern Ave . Thomas Brenner and Business owner were present. Motion was made by Yem Lip, seconded by Nelson Miller, to approve this sign application. 3 Yea 0 Nay 2.) The committee reviewed a sign application for Nails for You & Spa located at 218 Centre Street . Mary Duong, from Art Studio Sign & Neon was present. Motion was made by Yem Lip seconded by Nelson Miller to approve this application. 3 Yea 0 Nay 3.) The committee reviewed a sign application for Embassy Motor Lodge located at 321 Broadway. Corey Berkowitch from Sachem Signs was preset. Motion was made by Nelson Miller seconded by Yem Lip to approve with the following conditions. a. Approval for free standing sign. b. Approval of the aesthetics of the wall sign. – Dimensions need to be revised down to 32 square feet. 3 Yea 0 Nay Meeting adjourned at : By Nelson Miller at 9:19 AM seconded by Yem Lip.
