ADJOURNMENT  STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS Mayor Brenda J. Weldon February 12, 2024 It has been a pleasure being the Mayor of the City of Malvern for the last 9 years. I really appreciate all the support, dedica on and hard work from all the City employees and the great leadership from the department heads. I thank the City Council, City A orney and City Treasurer for all their support and help. We can accomplish so much more by working together. A er comple ng the new Fire Sta on in 2022, the Firemen are se led into their new facility and are very apprecia ve to have such a nice building and the much-needed extra space. The Police Department was finished in 2023 and they are also enjoying their needed extra space and are also very apprecia ve. Phase 2 of the micro surface street preserva on was completed with another 17 miles being completed along with 54 street cuts repaired and a crack seal and mas c machine program has started to preserve our streets. With our infrastructure aging daily, we completed 13 drainage projects at a cost of $260,000.00 and will con nue with those projects in 2024. Malvern Water Works are s ll upgrading sewer and water lines and con nue working on solu ons found in recent studies of our system. Unfortunately, with improvements will come cuts in our streets and repairs to those, but that is the cost of upgrading our infrastructure. The Code Office has been busy with inspec ons of new homes and businesses and tore down 12 condemned proper es along with mowing and cleaning up blighted proper es. The Animal Shelter had 768 calls, 161 animals impounded, 280 cita ons issued, 63 charges for animal cruelty and all were found guilty, and 102 animals adopted or sent to rescues. Also, improvements con nue with a new facility being built in 2024 to house more animals. The airport saw a great change with grants from FFA and Arkansas Aeronau cs by extending the runway and in 2024, 4 new hangars will be built from an 80/20 grant from Arkansas Aeronau cs. The City was able to obtain the following grants: Violence Against Women and Children (VAWA) $38,377.43 South Central Solid Waste $5,907.28 Blue to You Founda on Grant (Fire Dept) $1,565.22 Best Friend Animal Shelter $1,000.00 FAA Runway Extension $995,059.00 LLBEG for Laptops (Police Dept) $4,000.00 Thank you for allowing me to be your Mayor, and I pray daily for wisdom and knowledge to make the best decisions for everyone in the City of Malvern.
