MINUTES OF BOARD OF REVIEW- CITY OF MANISTEE MEETING HELD AT CITY HALL, 70 MAPLE ST., MANISTEE MI JULY 17, 2012- 9: 15 A.M. Secretary Julie Beardslee called the Board of Review to order at 9: 15 a.m. on July 17, 2012. Chairperson Doug Parkes, Member Therran Ferguson and Alternate Member Lynda Beaton were present. Julie Beardslee, City Assessor and Secretary of the Board ofReview was present. The Board corrected clerical errors and qualified errors as related to assessment figures for 2011 and 2012. Hearings for Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit appeals( current year and three year' s prior) and Hardship Exemption appeals were accomplished. The Board is prohibited from hearing valuation appeals, other than clerical errors, by the rules of the State Tax Commission and the General Property Tax Law. . The Board received copies of the following: 2012 Property Tax Appeals which is Bulletin No. 16 of 2011, Poverty Exemptions, which is Bulletin No. 5 of 2012 and a copy of 2012 Poverty Exemption Application. The Board discussed the State Tax Commission bulletins and other handouts. The public notice for today' s meeting was published in the Manistee News Advocate on July 2, 2012. The Board approved the March 2012 Board ofReview Minutes, The motion to approve the minutes was passed with a motion by Lynda Beaton, seconded by Therran Ferguson, all were in favor. The secretary reminded the Board of the December 11, 2012 session to correct clerical and qualified errors and to hear Principal Residence Exemption and Poverty Exemption appeals. The City Clerk will be advertising to fill the position ofJohn Rulison, who died in June: John fulfilled his responsibilities on the Board in a kind, thoughtful, no nonsense manner, serving as an alternate and then a regular member for five years. The Board will miss John' s dry wit. The City Clerk will also advertise for an alternate member. Johns' term would have been up 12- 31- 2012. The Board of Review Summary will list petitioners and decisions of the Board of Review. Pertinent information for each appeal will be found in each parcel record file. The Board heard and decided appeals as found in the Board of Review Summary for July 17, 2012. Therran Ferguson moved to adjourn at 10: 50 a.m., Lynda seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
