MANISTEE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MINUTES OF JUNE 11, 2013 The Manistee City Council met in a work session on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 7 p.m., Council Chambers, City Hall, 70 Maple Street, Manistee MI 49660. MEMBERS PRESENT: Colleen Kenny, Beth Adams, Eric Gustad, Robert Goodspeed, Bob Hornkohl MEMBERS ABSENT: Catherine Zaring, Ed Cote OTHERS PRESENT: Department Directors, Media and Public Discussion on Fireworks Legislation/ Local Ordinance. City Attorney George Saylor and City Manager Mitch Deisch discussed current status of State Legislation and presented new proposed ordinance which will limit fireworks during federal holidays and prohibit them outside the designated federal holidays. Fireworks are always prohibited on public property, even over the designated federal holidays. Staff will schedule a public hearing at the June 18, 2013 Council meeting and, pending State action, may have the new ordinance before City Council on the July 2, 2013 agenda. 2013 Capital Project Update. Staff presented updates and timelines on the Fish Cleaning Station, First Street Beach Pavilion, Maple Street Drainage project, and the Kosciusko Street project. Regular updates will be made to Council throughout the construction season during work sessions. Miscellaneous. Updated Council on the Engineer of Record Request for Qualifications process. City Manager proposes using Staff and the Council Utilities Committee to interview potential and make a recommendation to Council. candidates The majority of Council supported this concept.
