AD HOC EVENTS COMMITTEE
MEETING NOTES OF MARCH 21, 2024
A meeting of the Ad Hoc Events Committee was held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 in the First Floor
Conference Room, City Hall, Manistee. The meeting commenced at 3:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Cindy Lundberg, Mark Fedder, Jeff Mikula, Julia Cook, Bill Gambill, Dyllan
Walker (via Teams), James Beaudrie
EXCUSED ABSENCE: Chief Josh Glass, Sammie Lukaskiewicz
Other Future Events
• Discussed permanent Events Committee
o Purpose and Duties
o Staff Person
▪ Community-wide – not City or Downton District only. Would receive contributions
from DDA, Tourism Authority, etc.
▪ Defined list of large events ahead of time – assist with smaller events as time allows.
▪ Example – Traverse City Festival Foundation
▪ Staff working in conjunction with Event Commission – this would allow for
consistency and streamlining events.
▪ Helpful with fundraising efforts having one touch person.
▪ Discussed salary structure – possibility for bonus structure.
Recommendations
• Permanent Committee
o Take on only certain events
o Purpose of committee is to ensure events are respectful of history and congruent with the
original event
o Engaging the Native American Community
Sleighbell Parade
Discussion included:
• RRCA Sleighbell Committee 2023 balance to the City – $4, 583.
• Reviewed expenditures – updated spreadsheet provided to Chair.
• Sponsorship levels - $7,500+ should be added to the bottom of the brochure – front page with
“presented by” statement.
• Trademark – City to follow-up and secure trademark.
• Chair would like rules for the parade created.
• Reviewed secured Sleighbell events.
• Businesses creating trademark merchandise – City should require a licensing fee – start at $250.
• Create a link on Sleighbell website for volunteer sign-up.
