CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, March 19, 2015 5:00 P.M. Members Present: Roger Zielinski, Lynn Vasquez, Erin Pontiac, Ed Tegler, Jason Sullivan, Danielle Wilkosz Unexcused: Mark Tomaszewski Also Present: Jeff Mikula, Kathie Boyle, Denise Blakeslee- City of Manistee Judd Brown – Manistee City Planning Commission Ken Blakely-Shell, Christa Johnson – Non Motorized Committee A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks and Beautification Commission was held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at City Hall 2nd floor conference room. Meeting was called to order by Chair Lynn Vasquez at 5:00 p.m. Motion by Pontiac, second by Tegler to approve Agenda. All in favor. Approval of Minutes - Motion by Tegler, second by Sullivan to accept February 19, 2015 minutes and place on file. All in favor. Chair Vasquez welcomed new member Danielle Wilkosz to our commission. PUBLIC HEARING Denise Blakeslee, Planning & Zoning Administrator discussed the “County Recreation Plan. This plan will incorporate our City Parks Plan towards a unified plan within the county. Members were presented with an assignment on future site improvements for our parks. Information shall provide Pontiac their input, and she will then forward information to Blakeslee to compile and present to the County. OLD BUSINESS City Web Site Tegler requested “Adopt A Park Program” be placed on the website. Boyle will contact Denise Blakeslee for posting. NEW BUSINESS Fifth Avenue Beach House Concession Tegler requested the P & B Commission to appoint a sub-committee that would meet with all bidders to allow them to present their menu, decorations, etc. Zielinksi, Tegler and Sullivan volunteered to be on the committee. Contract for last year’s vendor was terminated. First Street Concession – Awarded last year to North Country Cafe, opening was delayed until spring of 2015 due to Health Department permitting. The city provides both concession stands with water, electricity and cleaning supplies. Commission would like the bid for 5th Avenue to go out in the very near future. GENERAL DISCUSSION Rotary Park Mikula updated on the up-coming progress at new park. DPW will begin preparing the site and laying concrete. Sinclair and the community will build the park hopefully with completion by the 4th of July. The DPW will then move over to 5th Avenue and begin work in the area of the old shelter house. Sullivan requested more picnic tables in the area. Wilkosz asked if a splash pad was proposed that could go in the old rocket park area. Discussion followed on the beach conceptual plans. Motion by Zielinski, second by Zielinski to adjourn.
