Committee Reports
Morton Park Playground/Grant Money – McCann reported that we were unable to place the woodchips in
the swing area because of the way the grade runs. Instead, woodchips were placed by the slide. Pontiac
would like if possible some wood chips still placed in the holes by the swings. McCann to give Pontiac
break down of money spent and what amount of the $500 is left. The balance must be spent by
mid-December.
All grants must be approved by City Council.
OLD BUSINESS
Fifth Avenue Beach Area Improvements – Discussion has been between Mikula and Tegler over the sand
building up around the fence and causing damage, have come to no conclusion.
Update on paddle board rental, food truck, fire pits – no one has tracked progress. This would be great
information for next year. Sara from the paddleboard rental did not do as well as she anticipated. She is
re-thinking and researching her options for next season. Council can ask for updates from the different
vendors.
McCann believes the Fifth Avenue vendor will be back next year. Tegler would like a committee to sit
down with the vendor next spring to discuss any issues he had at the concession stand. We need to hash
out his and our concerns.
NEW BUSINESS
Reitz Park
Tegler asked about a webpage site for the Manistee Saints which stated they were hosting a fund raiser for
Reitz Park by purchasing a brick. Zielinski stated there is not a fund raiser at this time.
Pontiac would like to see the new “no smoking” signs moved at Rotary Park, appears that the no smoking
area is only by a parking spot not the entire park. McCann will get with Mikula.
Comments
Pontiac reported that the “Girl Scout Camp” may be closing and there may be 13 -15 plastic picnic tables
that possibly will be available to the city. Need to get with City manager if we can accept the donation.
Mutt Mitts at the Dog Park need to be refilled.
Tegler reported that at Fifth Avenue Park a grill has been laying on the ground since last spring. McCann
will take care of removing grill.
Mayor Pro-tem Zielinksi thanked the commission for all they do.
Mayor Smith appreciates all committees and commissions for their hard work.
Parks commission gave their congratulations to Smith and Zielinski on their newly appointed positions,
and it’s great they attend our meetings.
Motion by Sullivan, second by Quinn to adjourn at 6:20 p.m.
Next meeting date – Thursday, January 19, 2017 @ 5:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathie Boyle
Recording Secretary
