City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes Thursday, February 15, 2024 A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was called to order by the Chair on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 70 Maple Street Manistee MI 49660. Members Present Liz Laskey, Karin Maue, Karen Peltola, John Veach, Lani Rozga Members Excused Tim O’Connor Others Present Jeff Mikula, Katie Trivisonno DPW Approval of Agenda Motion by Veach, second by Rozga to approve the agenda. Approval of Minutes Motion by Maue, second by Peltola to approve January meeting minutes. Public Comment None Correspondence None Committee Reports Morton Park- Mikula gave update on construction of basketball court. Volunteers are scheduled to paint playground equipment April 22, at 10:00 am. Amphitheater-No update Kickball team-No update Plein Aire-Peltola will meet with local artist Purple Paint Brush in April. Budget-No update Maintenance-Mikula gave an update on maintenance projects. Arthur street restrooms received new paint and epoxy floor. Signposts have been trimmed. The Parks department removed the old bench and will be refinishing bleachers at Duffy Park. Grants and Studies South Riverwalk project: bid packages have been posted and decking material has been selected. North Riverwalk project: waiting for appropriation of funds. Beach Masterplan-Laskey attended the Steering Committee meeting. New Business Consensus on Capitol Improvements-Pickleball courts, city property acquisitions, 9th Street boat launch improvements, bike paths/lanes throughout the city, addition of dog parks.  Playing Fields-adequate playing fields for sporting events, update on north softball field improvements. Mark Fedder, Marina history presentation May 16 at 6:30 pm. Old Business Summer Events-Stargazing event coordinator Brooke Edwards will no longer be offering her services. Memorials-No update Lions Pavilion Suggested projects for 2024 season include painting cabanas and adding flowerpots.
