TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES JUNE 8, 2015 MEMBERS PRESENT: Sue Verheek, Pat Sagala, Cookie Friedrich, Bruce Schaub, MEMBERS EXCUSED: Bob Johnson, Janice Waterman, Pat Williams OTHERS PRESENT: Kathie Boyle – City of Manistee Chair Sagala called meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Motion by Friedrich second by Verheek to accept May 5, 2015 minutes and place on file. NEW BUSINESS None OLD BUSINESS Tree Planting Schaub met with contractor to create a new tree planting program. Contractor is overwhelmed with other work at this time, will meet at a later date. Discussed what time of year is best plant trees, also what type of trees grow the healthiest in our area. Fertilizing spikes would be beneficial, balled and burlapped trees are not necessary for planting. Schaub will get with Mikula on revising our tree planting specifications. Chalk Art Schaub volunteered to create a sign for the chalk art contest, we will be able to use sign every year by just changing the date. Error in the Forest Festival brochure – not listed was the age groups, may have issues with parents but will work it out. Friedrich will assemble goodie bags. Boyle will have barricades placed down by the fountain. COMMENTS There being no further business, Motion by Johnson, second by Williams to adjourn.
