TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES AUGUST 5, 2019 MEMBERS PRESENT: Gerald Haw, Sue Verheek, Cookie Friedrich, Janice Waterman, Bob Johnson, Pat Sagala MEMBERS UNEXCUSED: Pat Williams OTHERS PRESENT: Brandon Prince – City of Manistee A regular meeting of the Manistee Tree Commission was called to order by Chair Janice Waterman on Monday, August 5, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in the lunch room at City Hall. CITIZEN/PUBLIC COMMENT Bushes need to be cut by Painted Lady at 8th & Kosciusko on Kosciusko Street APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Haw, second by Sagala to approve June 3, 2019 minutes and place on file. All in Favor. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Since commission has been out that the City is not allowed to spend tax dollars for the Chalk Art contest Sagala reported that all “Chalk Art Contest” supplies have been donated to local organizations. NEW BUSINESS Haw discussed a tree removal application submitted by Dr. Gardin. The tree is located behind his River Street business on the riverwalk. Mr. Haw has met with Kaitlyn (DDA) to research. 1. Haw/Waterman – Description is needed for property owned by Dr. Gardin regarding his tree removal request. Is Dr. Gardin’s tree on riverwalk – is it city or private property. 2. Prince presented recommendation from Commission to cut down large willow tree on Riverwalk by City Marina. The DPW will be moving forward on this recommendation. Comments None Motion by Friedrich second by Johnson to adjourn at 5:25 p.m. Next meeting date – Monday, September 9, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m. in the lunch room at City Hall.
