TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 9, 2019 MEMBERS PRESENT: Gerald Haw, Sue Verheek, Cookie Friedrich, Janice Waterman, Bob Johnson MEMBERS EXCUSED: Pat Sagala MEMBERS UNEXCUSED: Pat Williams OTHERS PRESENT: Kathie Boyle – City of Manistee A regular meeting of the Manistee Tree Commission was called to order by Chair Janice Waterman on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 5:05 p.m. in the lunch room at City Hall. CITIZEN/PUBLIC COMMENT APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Friedrich, second by Verheek to approve August 5, 2019 minutes with an addition in the comment section and place on file. All in Favor. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Bushes on 8th & Kosciusko by Painted Lady have been trimmed. NEW BUSINESS 2019 Tree Planting Program Boyle reported on the 2019 Tree Planting Program. Contractor bids are due September 25 and requests from citizens are due September 27, 2019. Ads have been published in the Manistee New Advocate and specs sent to local contractors. Comments ➢ Commission noticed trees planted on Fifth Avenue were not approved. ➢ Haw noticed Autumn Blaze trees on Cedar Street are dying they appear to have mites on leaves – City will contact contractor for answer. ➢ Dr. Gardin’s tree on Riverwalk needs to be determined if it is on City or private property and if it planted by the City years ago. The top is dead and needs to be trimmed/removed. ➢ Boyle gave update to members regarding upcoming term endings this December.
