TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES MAY 17, 2022 Members Present: Gerald Haw, Vidar Lerum, Sam Coram, Dennis Otto Members Excuse: John Helge, Angela Raab Others Present: Katie Trivisonno, Jen and Dale Teller, Josh Shields, Jane Schimke A meeting of the Manistee Tree Commission was called to order by Vice-Chair Gerald Haw on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 5:03 pm in council chambers at City Hall. Approval of Agenda: Motion to table the Harbor Springs Vegetation Management Plan until next meeting date. Approved Citizen/Public Comment: Jane Schimke questioned right-of-way, actual measurements. She also wondered about the trees removed on Cherry Street near Country Club. Jen Teller discussed tree view maintenance and view shed. She mentioned owners own the views by paying taxes and to reconsider her request of tree trimming. Dale Teller Discussed tree trimming and would like the Commission to reconsider their decision. He asked the Commission to take another look. Approval of Minutes: Approval of Special Meeting from April 11, 2022, minutes. All in favor. Unfinished Business: Update on Publicity/Promotion of Tree Purchase Program. 32 trees have been purchased. The city received one bid from landscape contractor. Contract is on Council agenda June 7th meeting. New Business: Introduction by Josh Shields, Arborist. Josh is employed by the Manistee Conservation District. He is a technical resource for private/public landowners. Shields discussed the Tree Risk Assessment form and explained likelihood and risk rating matrix. New Requests-Commission received 10 new tree trimming requests. Motion to develop a tree trimming plan. Approved.
