CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mike Leasor at 6:01 p.m. Board Members present: Cindy Gardner, Connie McGough, Carol McKenna, Mike Leasor, James Leggs, Chris Ohan, and Marty Thomas. City Staff present: Museum Manager Jessica Baber and Director of Library Services Yolanda Botello Citizens Present: Annette Hamill and Edna Phillips 2. APPROVE MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER MEETING The Board discussed the minutes. Chris made a motion to approve the minutes. Carol seconded the motion. All voted in favor to approve the minutes 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS None 4. PRESERVATION MONTH COMMITTEE UPDATE Cindy updated the Board on the committee’s progress. Many activities have been planned and are on the calendar, others are in various stages of being finalized. Some of the activities planned are: a photo contest, a youth program at the library, a presentation on Oral Histories by Chris, a bike/run 25K, a presentation by Jessica on preserving family treasures, a scrapbooking class, a shop Historic Downtown day, and a movie at the Farr Best Theater. Yolie mentioned that screening movies at the theater costs about $400. Mike offered to solicit donations if fundraising was going to be necessary. He encouraged the rest of the board to do so, once we are aware of what needs to be raised. 5. MAN HOUSE MUSEUM UPDATE The city has been accepting bids from potential subcontractors. The submission period has ended and the contractor should have a final price ready to take to City Council at the February 10 meeting. Board members are encouraged to attend the Council meeting to show support for the project. 6. BOARD RECOGNITION AT COUNCIL MEETING The City Council is planning to recognize the Historic Preservation Advisory Board and the Historic Landmark Commission at the Council meeting on April 27th. The date was chosen to give an opportunity to make people aware of Historic Preservation Month in May. Reminders and updates about the meeting will be sent closer to the date. 7. UPCOMING PROGRAMS AND EVENTS The Museum, Library and Historic Landmark Commission have a joint project for the city’s 130th anniversary. Mansfield - This is Us is a way to collect stories from people CITY OF MANSFIELD Page 1 Historic Preservation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final January 23, 2020 Board in the community about their history and experiences in Mansfield. The flyer was passed out to board members. It includes person data that participants must complete and prompts for the types of information we are looking for. Chris offered to look over the updated version of the flyer and make suggestions about improvements that can be made. A presentation of the project will be made to City Council at the February 10 meeting. The Museum is offering downtown walking tours on the afternoons of Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 in conjunction with Arts Week. This will be the museum’s first time putting on this program. Annette, Connie, Carol, Marty and Chris offered to help with the program. Jessica will get them more information closer to the event. 8. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS None 9.
