CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Cindy Gardner at 6:02 p.m. Board Members present: Johnny Bratton, Cindy Gardner, Annette Hamill, Tom Leach, Connie McGough, and Chris Ohan Board Members Absent: Marty Thomas City Staff present: Director of Library Services Yolanda Botello and Museum Manager Jessica Baber 2. APPROVE MINUTES FROM FEBRUARY MEETING Marty contacted Jessica before the meeting with a grammatical change in the “Mansfield Legacy” Mural Project paragraph. The change was reflected in the minutes handed out at the meeting. Chris made a motion to approve the minutes as amended, Connie seconded and all voted in favor. 3. CITIZENS COMMENTS None 4. MAN HOUSE MUSEUM UPDATE The information center will be completed in early May. Once construction is completed, the furniture and displays will need to be moved in and arranged. The Programs Committee will be meeting soon to start planning the Founder’s Day Event which will be held on August 28. Tom has already started contacting demonstrators to come. He thinks he has a spinner and weaver, laundress, soap maker, potter, blacksmith, artist and cook lined up. 5. PRESERVATION MONTH UPDATE Tom told the group that every Friday and Saturday in May at the Man House there will be small demonstrations going on for visitors to see. We are inviting the docents to come and observe on those days as well to learn a new skill that they could potentially use at events in the future. Once the schedule of activities is set, all the docents will be emailed so they can plan to come on the day/s when something they are interested in is taking place. 6. "MANSFIELD LEGACY" MURAL PROJECT DISCUSSION Cindy said that the fact that the mural project went forward without any input or even notification made her feel like our board was superfluous, or had no real role within the city mechanism. Yolie responded that it wasn’t that the city didn’t recognize the group’s importance, it was that the one city employee in charge of the project missed some steps in getting the project completed. CITY OF MANSFIELD Page 1 Historic Preservation Advisory Meeting Minutes March 25, 2021 Board 7. BLACK STUDENTS ASSOCIATION PROJECT UPDATE There has been no update since the last meeting. The last Jessica heard, the group was still waiting to hear about when a visit is planned to Brenda Norwood’s home to view the items she has for potential exhibit. It seems unlikely that anything will be put together this school year. Next school year, we will reach out to the association again and see if we can get a prompter start on the project. Perhaps setting a goal of having the exhibit ready for Black History Month would be helpful. Connie is going to contact the other high schools to see if they have Black Student Associations as well that we could partner with in the future. 8. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Cindy and Connie will not be in town for the May meeting. 9.
