CITY OF MANSFIELD 102 N. Main St. Mansfield, TX 76063 mansfieldtexas.gov Meeting Minutes Thursday, May 27, 2021 6:00 PM Mansfield Historical Museum and Heritage Center Historic Preservation Advisory Board Historic Preservation Advisory Meeting Minutes May 27, 2021 Board 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Marty at 6:02 p.m. Board Members present: Annette Hamill, Tom Leach, Chris Ohan and Marty Thomas Board Members missing: Johnny Bratton, Cindy Gardner, Connie McGough City Staff present: Museum Manager Jessica Baber 2. APPROVE MINUTES FROM APRIL MEETING Chris made a motion to approve the minutes as written, Marty seconded and all voted in favor. 3. CITIZENS COMMENTS None 4. MAN HOUSE MUSEUM UPDATE Savannah, the Museum Clerk has resigned, so the clerk position is open and applications are being accepted. The museum is also hiring a full-time Education and Engagement Specialist. Jessica asked for the position, along with another clerk position, in the 2022 budget, but the city management team decided that the position should be hired immediately. The position is open and Jessica hopes to begin interviews in early June. The new employee will office at the Man House and will oversee the day-to-day operations of that facility. They will also be responsible for doing the education and special event programming for both museums. The information center opening has been delayed, likely because of all the rain we have gotten in the last month. The building seems close to completion, but Jessica has not been given a projected date. There is still landscaping work that needs to be done as well. The rain has also caused delays with moving the windmill from Matlock Rd to the Man House Museum. It has been postponed twice now and rescheduled for next Friday. The Programs Committee has had their second meeting about the Founder’s Day event. The group has a good plan in place, but there is a lot of work to be done between now and August. As we get closer to the event, the other Board members may get asked to step in and help with projects to get ready for the day. Connie, Tom and Jessica met with two members of the Mansfield Garden Club to see if they would be interested in helping with some projects at the Man House as well as participating in our Founder’s Day event. The group discussed different ways the club could get involved at the museum like helping identify plants on the site, cleaning up the site before Founder’s Day, and creating a historically accurate garden plan. The members will go back to the larger organization for approval to take on new projects. CITY OF MANSFIELD Page 1 Historic Preservation Advisory Meeting Minutes May 27, 2021 Board 5. PRESERVATION MONTH UPDATE The Man House had great attendance for all three weeks in which there were demonstrations. Each week had between 30-40 visitors. The other events taking place this month also seem to be going well. 6. PRESERVATION PROJECTS UPDATE Last month the Board voted to assist the Historic Landmark Commission with two preservation projects, a windshield survey and recommendations of historic structures for saving. Since the last meeting, Cindy has divided the homes on the windshield survey into quadrants and made packets for volunteers to take. Each packet has 10-12 houses as well as instructions and the form to fill out on each house. 7. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS The city has inherited the Juneteenth exhibit that was housed at the First Methodist Church. The Museum has been asked to revamp it before the June 19th celebration. Jessica asked the exhibits committee to help with the project. She will be receiving the exhibit next week and will contact everyone once it arrives so a plan can be made for how best to update it. The Mansfield Historical Society is meeting on June 2 to discuss whether they will help with the cost of moving the Cook cabin to the Man House Museum and with the restoration of the cabin and setting it up for programming. Tom has been advocating for their assistance with this project and will be at the meeting. 8.
