CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Cindy Gardner at 6:10 Board Members present: Cindy Gardner, Annette Hamill, Tom Leach, Chris Ohan, and Marty Thomas City Staff present: Museum Manager, Jessica Baber and Museum Education and Engagement Specialist, Amanda Brown Citizen present: Linda Leddy 2. APPROVE MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER MEETING Chris made a motion to approve the minutes as written, Tom seconded and all voted in favor. 3. CITIZENS' COMMENTS None 4. TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF MUSEUMS MEMBERSHIP DISCUSSION The board discussed that they had been given memberships to TAM as part of the City Council push to improve training opportunities for board and commission members. The TAM conference was also discussed. There is money in the budget for three board members to attend. The spots will be offered first to the board officers, then others if they cannot attend. 5. OFFICER ELECTIONS Chair - Cindy Gardner, Vice-Chair - Marty Thomas, Secretary - Annette Hamill were elected unanimously. 6. PROJECT UPDATES Preservation Committee: Art asked Cindy if we could make a recommendation for official recognition list of 10 or 12 properties to give to the Landmark Commission. We recommended 205 North St, 213 Sycamore St, 107 Sycamore St, 201 N Walnut Creek, 503 E Broad St, 506 W Broad St, 302 Elm St, 500 Elm St, 301 E Broad St, 108 N Main St, 110 N Main St. Upcoming Programs: Children’s Day at Arts Week - March 14 at the Historical Museum. Hands on history program - March 16 from 10am - 12pm at the Man House. Summer camp - 3rd through 4th grade at the Man House. June 13th – 17th and July 25th - 29th 8am - 12 pm. Hands on History - June 6th at the Library, 12 pm -2pm. Halloween program in October 2022 Traveling Trunk - being created by scout for his Eagle Scout project CITY OF MANSFIELD Page 1 Historic Preservation Advisory Meeting Minutes March 3, 2022 Board Founders Day - October 1st, we need a committee. If you want to join let Amanda know. Garden Club: We partnered with the Garden Club to determine what plants could have been at the Man House in the 1800s. They have created a proposal and provided detailed drawing of the landscape. They are testing the soil and will take care of the planting. They will use bricks and stones to replace the metal edging in the flowerbeds. They will replace mulch with pine needles and plant roses along the fence line. The city of Mansfield is paying for this project. Traveling Exhibits: The museum will be partnering with the Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring a Texas Lake Trail traveling exhibit to the museum. October 10th – November 7th there is the Women’s Aviation in WWII Traveling exhibit that we hope to bring. There is also an exhibit on Crochet that is available in early 2023. Wedding Exhibit: The museum is planning a wedding exhibit in June 2022. Jessica Baber, Linda Leddy, Marty Thomas, Cindy Gardner, Karen Leach and Annette Hamill are on the committee for this exhibit. Historic Preservation Month: There are many activities planned for this May for Historic Preservation Month. Chris mentioned that he would like to do an Oral History Workshop during the month as well. Also, it will be 20 years in May since the opening of the Mansfield Historical Museum. The board suggested have a reception at the museum and inviting local dignitaries and the Historical Society membership with May 19 as the tentative date. 7. STEPS PROGRAM-INTRODUCTION Jessica gave an Introduction to the program. Steps is divided into 6 sections that breakdown museum different functions. We will do one section at a time as a group during meetings in the upcoming months. Each member was given a handbook to work from that is theirs to keep. 8. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Chris talked about The Handbook of Texas that he and Cindy updated. It has finally been published on the Handbook website. 9.
