CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Cindy Gardner at 6:10 pm. Board Members present: Cindy Gardner, Annette Hamill, Tom Leach, Linda Leddy, Chris Ohan and Marty Thomas City Staff present: Museum Manager, Jessica Baber and Museum Education and Engagement Specialist, Amanda Brown 2. APPROVE MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 1 MEETING Marty made the motion to approve the minutes as written and Chris seconded. All voted in favor to approve. 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS None 4. PROJECT UPDATES a. New Staff – Two new museum clerks started in January. Kylie Kincaid is working at the Historical Museum and Laura Garcia-Torres is working primarily at the Man House b. Man House Hour Change – The Man House is now open on Tuesdays. This means both museums are open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm. c. Upcoming Programs – Art’s week is March 10-13 and the museum is hosting a tour of downtown on Saturday the 11 at 1 pm, and participating in kids day by having a craft at the Historical Museum on the 13 from 10-2. There will be a Hands on History at the Man House on March 25 from 12-2 and the activity will be embroidering a bookmark. d. Preservation Month Activities and Location Identification – During Preservation Month, a different location will be highlighted every day on social media. May 6th, Jessica will be giving a lecture on how to take care of family photographs at the Historic Museum at 2 pm. At the Man House, there will be a demonstration or activity each Saturday. On May 6th is floor cloth painting, May 13th is stamp making, May 20th is teacup decorating and May 27th is tin punching. Downtown will have events each week as well. There will be a classic car show on May 6th, a chalk art contest on May 13th, a shop Main St weekend on the 19th & 20th and a scavenger hunt May 20th. A poster contest taking place for March and April to be ready by May for display for elementary to high school. There will also be guided walking tours every Saturday which will include criminal history tour, cemetery tour and history tour. Flyers will be put together to advertise to the public by mid-March. 5. TAM MEETING DISCUSSION The Texas Association of Museums event is April 23-26th in San Antonio. There is money budgeted for the three officers to attend. APPROVAL OF BYLAWS The wording of Article IV, Section 13 of the bylaws was revised by the City Council. After reading the revision, Cindy moved that the changes be accepted. Marty seconded the motion and all voted in favor to approve. 7. STEPS PROGRAM The board read and discussed COL Standard 7, A-K, and pages 135-146. 8. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Tom suggested the board form a committee to work towards improving diversity in the museum’s exhibits and collection. The Historical Society Board met with Michael Maynard from the Community Cemetery who is going to suggest some people to meet with us. Tom is meeting with the Parks Department concerning the Cook Cabin. Tom and Linda completed an inventory of the Historical Society’s merchandise. Tom suggested the walking tours need to be reviewed. Also, there are no DVD’s left. They will not buy anymore. Jessica will be out of the office for the next meeting date. Date changed to the 30th of March. 9.
