CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by President Bobby Quinten at 6:02 p.m. Board Members Present Bobby Quinten, Cindy Kuster, Debra Collins, Emily Bauer, Richard Ajenikoko, Maggie Martin, Althea Chaderton, Cindy Gray Library Staff Present Director of Library Services Yolanda Botello, Assistant Director of Library Services Faria Matin, Youth Services Librarian Julie Crisafulli, and Library Administrative Assistant II Blacey Bailey. Absent Board Member Suzonne Evans, ex officio Friends President Kathy Allen and Community Engagement Librarian Lori Eddy Citizens Present Carol Ann Grantham 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MAY MEETING A motion to approve the May 2021 minutes, as written was made by Debra Collins and was seconded by Maggie Martin. The minutes were unanimously approved. 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. 4. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY UPDATE Carol Ann Grantham provided the following Friends update: Donations- A $1000.00 grant was received from the Mansfield Women’s Club. Ten boxes of books were received from a book drive. Friends will again be selling books in the lobby. Library Renovation- Friends will need a place to store books during the library renovation. They are in search of someone who might provide a storage location or suggest a solution. Mansfield Reads- Reads flyer went out on mail chimp, resulting in two sponsorships: $1000.00 from a Charter School in Arlington and $1000.00 from Mouser. Market Street will host the kick-off event again. Friends are close to getting Cinemark onboard to play the movie with a discussion. Friends meeting was moved to Tuesday, June 15 due to a conflict with the joint facility public meeting. 5. DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES REPORT Director Yolanda Botello provided the following update: The library is getting back to pre CoVid status with increased activity, more furniture, CITY OF MANSFIELD Page 1 Mansfield Public Library Advisory Meeting Minutes June 9, 2021 Board etc. out and more computers open. Budget: The budget meeting is June 10. The Library won’t be asking for much. Summer Reading: The summer reading program is going well with about 400 signed up. “Boredom Busters” are flying off the shelf. 6. OLD BUSINESS Library Expansion update: The design is not 100% completed. They still need to go through the city’s design committee followed by going out to bid for contractors. The updated timeline has groundbreaking set for September or October. It is estimated to be a 9 month project, depending on the contractors. The library is not planned to be closed at any point. However, the entire library will be involved at some time. Feasibility Study: The steering committee met on June 8 to discuss what is wanted for the joint MAC/Library facility while simultaneously adding up the projected cost. Afterward, a public meeting was held at 6:30 pm to explain the possibilities and to gather public input regarding preferences. The new facility will have shared spaces. A public survey is now online until July. Posters may go up in the MAC so that people can place stickers on what they want in the new facility. The city will put together a bond committee to reach out to the public to advocate for this project on an emotional level. Yolie reminded the board that once this project goes to bond, city staff cannot advocate for it. It is the library board and friends role to advocate for the joint facility. A discussion followed regarding questions from the board: Will the facility be open to only Mansfield residents? Fees? Will the new facility accommodate social services? The next steering committee workshop and public meeting is scheduled for July 7, with the public meeting at 6:30 pm. The next step is to gather the data from the public meetings and surveys. 7. NEW BUSINESS None. 8. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Althea Chaderton – The Stars center has been secured to bring out their miniature hockey ring for the Story Stroll. There will be a meeting on June 15 to go over the content of the story. Carol Ann- Welcomed all to attend the Friends meeting on June 15 at 6 pm. Richard Ajenikoko - Thanked all those responsible for the new Tech Truck. Cindy Gray- Thanked Bobby and Cindy Kuster for serving on the joint facility steering committee. Yolie- Announced that Faria has been accepted to the 2021 Tall Texan class, a week long leadership class for all types of librarians. Bobby Quinten - Complimented the board for doing a tremendous job getting us to where we are now. The next scheduled board meeting is July 14 at 6:00 PM.
