CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by President Bobby Quinten at 6:25PM Board Members Present: Bobby Quinten, Debra Collins, Cindy Gray, Suzonne Evans, Maggie Martin, Richard Ajenikoko, and Emily Duran. Board Member Absent: Cindy Kuster, Althea Chaderton Library Staff Present: Director of Library Services Yolanda Botello, Assistant Director of Library Services Faria Matin, Youth Services Librarian Julie Crisafulli, Community Engagement Librarian Lori Eddy and Administrative Assistant Blacey Bailey. Citizen Present: None 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF APRIL MEETING A motion to approve the April minutes, as written was made by Debra Collins and was seconded by Maggie Martin. The minutes were unanimously approved. 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS None 4. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY UPDATE Debra Collins provided a Friends update: The Friends have a new brochure available for everyone. All was in order after the audit. A copy of the sponsor letter is available. Mansfield Reads 2022 is scheduled for October 20, 2022 at Legacy High School Performing Arts Center. The kick-off event is on September 8, 2022 at Market Street. The Friends are currently working with the publisher to purchase books. 5. DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES REPORT Library General Update: None, updates are covered under Old Business. 6. OLD BUSINESS Book Banning: There have been more book challenges happening recently in Texas. The library board has been made aware of the library’s challenged materials policy and the request for reconsideration of library materials form. Yolie will reach out to City Council to make them aware of the library policies. Library Expansion Update: The library construction is two months ahead of schedule. CITY OF MANSFIELD Page 1 Mansfield Public Library Advisory Meeting Minutes May 11, 2022 Board The library will be closing at the beginning of summer reading. Staff has worked with the contractor Library Interiors and the contract was approved by city council. Summer Reading programs have been shifted to different city facilities. Staff will still be onsite to provide curbside service. The last day of operation in the library is May 28 with the plan to reopen in the fall. The onsite storage should be delivered next week. The auctioning of items will follow. Some items from furniture vendors may be delayed, otherwise, everything else will be here on time. Feasibility Study/Bond Update: Prop D to expand the linear park trails was the only one of the 5 bond proposals that passed. The exact bond proposal for a combined Library/Recreation facility can’t be submitted again for three years. A different bond proposal for the library can be back up for election sooner than that. The City will plan to regroup and see what the next steps are for the future of the library. 7. NEW BUSINESS No new business 8. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS The next board meeting is June 8 at 6:00 PM. Since the library will be closed for construction, the meeting will be held at the Man House Museum Information Center. 9. ADJOURN The meeting was adjourned by President Bobby Quinten at 7:25 PM.
