Maple Grove Arbor subcommittee Regular meeting minutes September 5, 2024 CED Conference Room 10:00 a.m. Call to order The regular meeting of the Arbor Subcommittee was called to order by Member Marilyn Arnlund at 10:00 a.m. Members present Marilyn Arnlund, Don Varney, Sarah Piket Members absent None Also present Shane DeGroy Approval of agenda and Member Arnlund proposed moving review of slides to last minutes agenda item due to City Forester DeGroy joining the meeting to discuss follow-up items from June 24th meeting. Motion Varney, second Piket to approve the amended agenda for September 5, 2024. Vote all ayes. Motion passed. Approval of minutes Motion Varney, second Piket to approve the minutes for June 24, 2024. Vote all ayes. Motion passed. Old Business Follow-up items from June City Forester DeGroy had reviewed proposed Landscape 24th meeting Ordinance changes with City staff and he reviewed their feedback and suggestions with the subcommittee. The subcommittee discussed and feedback/suggestions generally fell into the following categories; 1) suggestions made sense to provide clarity and/or better tree health results and will be incorporated into subcommittee suggested ordinance changes, 2) subcommittee requested more information to better understand staff suggestion/feedback, 3) subcommittee felt suggestions would weaken changes designed to encourage tree health and survivability and would like to provide more information to staff, 4) new scope that subcommittee had not previously considered. One new scope item is to be considered is changing the method by which the required number of trees is calculated (linear feet of perimeter vs. area). Subcommittee requested this topic be discussed with the full Arbor Committee. Another new scope item is to look into tree requirements for residential developments. Subcommittee will assess how  many additional ordinances would be impacted and will make recommendation to either incorporate into subcommittee efforts or address as a separate effort. Review draft version of Time ran out so this topic was not discussed. slides for presentation to city staff and Council New Business None Adjournment Motion Arnlund, second Varney to adjourn the meeting at 1:58 p.m. Vote all ayes.
