MOTION by Member Lamb, seconded by Member Ferrara, to approve the amended agenda. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Yes: 7- Member Rakestraw, Vice-Chair O'Hara, Member McCann, Member Lancaster, Member Lamb, Member Ferrara and Chairman Burson (3) APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION by Member Lancaster, seconded by Member McCann, to approve the March 16, 2016 minutes. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Yes: 7- Member Rakestraw, Vice-Chair O'Hara, Member McCann, Member Lancaster, Member Lamb, Member Ferrara and Chairman Burson Mr. Brad Cornell presented shorebird stewardship program and answered the Board Member's questions and concerns. (4) STAFF COMMUNICATIONS a. Public straws on the beach Mr. Mike Tighe commented on BchAC commitment to beaches. He requested to not ban straws due to being critical to business. They are committed to trying biodegradable straws to reduce trash on the beach. Mr. Harold Roth requested Marriott adjust sweep times to include an evening time to benefit early morning beach walkers. Mr. Nick Wagner advised the Committee to sweep the beach first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening. Mr. Carlos Sapperio commented on his beach clean up process and passed out a sample of a biodegradable straw to the Committee. b. City's Beach Stewardship Program Chairman Burson requested an additional ad placed in newspaper in early September and asked for a volunteer coordinator for beach stewardship program. c. Beach Schedule Updates Next clean up scheduled for May 31, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. which will double as an City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Beach Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - Final April 20, 2016 educational program. d. Goals for 2016 - Samantha Malloy Committees discussed Goals for 2016. Board Member Lamb suggested reach out to the condominiums on the beach to educate on plastic straws. Board Member McCann commented on the "beach clean up" t-shirts. Adult and child sizes will be available. She advised MICA and Marco Sportfishing Club will host Congressman Curt Clawson on April 25, 2016 at 6:30 P.M. at the Rose History Museum, 180 South Heathwood Drive. The discussion is Lake Okeechobee water releases and effects on the Gulf of Mexico and beaches. (5) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Board Member Lancaster requested a confirmation date for a presentation at Mackle Park Summer Camp; June 30, July 21, or August 4. Board Member Ferrara advised he sent a pdf file to Board Member O'Hara on bird awareness poster to print. He will be replacing the sign at Tigertail Beach. He commented the green straws on the beach are coming from Starbucks Coffee. Board Member McCann commented the Marco Island Fire Department, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Collier County Children's Network have partnered together to provide additional life jackets for the beach that will be placed on the two city pathways. Chairman Burson commented about no monthly meetings in June, due to the audio/visual upgrade in the community room.
