Business ID 21-1521 Review of Comprehensive Plan Elements City of Marco Island Senior Planner Mary Holden introduced presenters Dr. Margaret Banyan and Ms. Alexis Crespo, and noted the 'Elements' of the Comprehensive Plan that were the subject of the Council's Workshop. The Council worked from, and provided input to, edited drafts of the 'Capital Improvements', 'Infrastructure', 'Parks', 'Transportation', 'Conservation & Coastal', 'Intergovernmental Coordination' and 'Glossary' Comprehensive Plan Elements that were previously reviewed and commented upon by the Marco Island Planning Board. In addition to the Council's review and input on the aforementioned Elements, direction regarding an alternative schedule for submission of the completed document to the State was also discussed and determined. Under the revised schedule, the completed Comprehensive Plan will return to the Marco Island Planning Board for review and approval on Friday, June 4, with a final City Council review scheduled for Monday, June 21, 2021. Additional Council input regarding the 'Housing' Element will follow pending the Council's review of the existing State statute and related examples from other municipalities. City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 City Council Meeting Minutes - Final April 29, 2021 Public Comment Mr. Dwight Goslee (Treasure Ct.) expressed his belief that the Council should devote more time and attention addressing issues and conditions which protect and enhance the quality of life on Marco Island. As examples, he pointed to the need for: 1) better management of the short-term vacation rental situation; 2) anticipation and planning for the impact of nearby urban development along Highway 951 and Highway 41, and; 3) decisive actions to reverse the continuing decline in the quality of the waters in and around Marco Island. 4.
