City of Margate Page 2 Printed on 6/16/2020 3:12 PM Northwest Focal Point Senior Summary Agenda June 17, 2020 Center District The Northwest Focal Point Senior Center is holding a virtual public meeting today, June 17, 2020 at 5 p.m. This statement explains the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center’s findings related to the need to hold the virtual public meeting, and the ability of the public to access the virtual public meeting in compliance with Florida Sunshine Laws. The Northwest Focal Point Senior Center’s procedure for the virtual public meeting are as follows: • Pursuant to Governor DeSantis’ Executive Orders 20-51 and 20-52, in which the Governor declared a public health emergency and a state of emergency, there is a recommendation to limit public gatherings. • On March 20, 2020, Governor DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-69, suspending the quorum requirements for public meetings held by a local government body, and the requirement that a local government body must meet at a specific public place. • On March 26, 2020, the City of Margate issued Margate Emergency Order (EO) 2020-01, directing all residents to shelter in place. • On April 1, 2020, Governor DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-91, ordering all persons in Florida to limit their movements and personal interactions outside their homes to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities. • Consistent with the authority contained in the Governor’s Executive Orders, and in order to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the City of Margate’s residents and employees, the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center finds that it is in the best interest of the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center to hold this virtual public meeting. • Therefore, the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center will be holding this virtual meeting through the use of electronic communication.
