Vote: 6-0-0 (member Johnny Walker arrived just after the vote) Vice Chairman Worden called for a motion to add to the agenda two applications for Milos Restaurant & Greek Taverna, located at 26 Mill Street. Board member Freedman made a motion to add the applications to the agenda, seconded by Board member Paden. Vote: 7-0-0 BUSINESS: 20130834 First Baptist Church of Marietta - 148 Church Street The applicant is requesting a Certificate of Approval for a new TPO roof, coping, and shingles. The contractor may reinstall the existing metal coping, but if it cannot be reused it will be replaced with the same color. The shingles will be replaced with the same color. Board member/Council member Johnny Sinclair disclosed that he is a member of the First Baptist Church of Marietta Board member Freedman made a motion to approve the request, seconded by Board member Johnny Fulmer. Vote: 7-0-0 20130847 130 South Park Square - The Local Exchange The applicant is requesting a Certificate of Approval for a new wall sign measuring 64" x 72" and 59.09" x 12.68"; 59.09" x 10.38". The applicant will also repaint in the same color, the space above the windows (Dover White SW 6385), window and door frames (Sealskin SW 7675). Board member/Council member Johnny Sinclair made a motion to approve the request, seconded by Board member Paden. City of Marietta Page 2 Printed on 8/7/2013 8:51:40AM MARIETTA HISTORIC BOARD OF Meeting Minutes August 5, 2013 REVIEW Vote: 7-0-0 20130812 148 Roswell Street - Previously Tommy's Sandwich Shop The applicant is requesting a Certificate of Approval for the following: Roswell Street To paint all existing wood trim around doors and windows dark brown. To remove the existing door and replace it with a window that will match existing windows. Atlanta Street To install an 8' high dark wooden door with glass. To install two 5' x 6' windows with wood trim painted dark brown. Board member Levine disclosed that he attends Church with Mr. Bilson and Mr. Tidwell Board member/Council member Johnny Sinclair made a motion to approve the request with the original door remaining, permanently sealed as long as the owner wants them to be and that they be allowed to do the windows on the side of the building…, seconded by Board member Freedman. No vote; discussion continues Board member/Council member Johnny Sinclair amends his motion to state, Motion to approve with one change that the doors remain permanently closed as long as the owner wants them to be, and the granite from the middle section be placed at the bottom of window or a new piece of granite installed if the granite breaks or crumbles. Board member Freedman withdraws his second, and Board member Paden seconds the amended motion. Vote: 5-2-0 members Freedman and Johnny Walker oppose 20130831 148 Roswell Street - Previously Tommy's Sandwich Shop The applicant is requesting a Certificate of Approval for the installation of new awnings for the business at 148 Roswell Street. The awning on Roswell Street will measure 18.5' x 5’; the awning on Atlanta Street will measure 41' x 5' feet. The awnings will be made from a black Sunbrella fabric. Board member/Council member Johnny Sinclair made a motion to approve the request, seconded by Board member Paden. Vote: 7-0-0 20130815 House of Lu - 89 Cherokee Street City of Marietta Page 3 Printed on 8/7/2013 8:51:40AM MARIETTA HISTORIC BOARD OF Meeting Minutes August 5, 2013 REVIEW The applicant is requesting a certificate of approval for the following items: 1. The exterior facade will be re-skinned with a fresh new building color-"Slate Gray" (all gray vertical gray stripes will be removed). 2. New downspouts and roof caps in "Slate Gray". 3. New windows - on Hansel Street - plan is to re-open 2 previous closed windows (optional per tenant's choice), and add 2 small crank style windows in the kitchen to address negative air pressure issues. 4. To add a new front door (either wood or metal) similar to the door on page (6) of the application packet. The door will be reddish orange and shiny to give it a lacquered look which is a finish that is significant in the Chinese culture. 5. New arm light (similar to others on the Square) over the logo and a new spotlight, replacing old spotlight, to illuminate the projecting sign. Board member Freedman made a motion to approve the following, seconded by Board member Johnny Walker: A reddish orange lacquered solid door (made from either wood or metal) with no windows and gold nail-heads/grommets Building exterior re-skinned/smoothed and painted in "Slate Gray" Removal of gray vertical stripes Downspouts and roof caps in a similar gray color Two new small windows on Hansel Street Open two previously closed windows on Hansel Street Vote: 7-0-0 20130816 House of Lu - 89 Cherokee Street The applicant is requesting a certificate of approval for the following: 1. Six new awnings measuring 3' x 6' with a 2” separation between each awning. The awnings are triangular shaped and will be covered in a black Sunbrella fabric. 2. A new Blade/Projection double-faced HUD sign that measures 54" in diameter. The sign will be primed and painted in three colors: white, black, and reddish orange. The sign will be mounted to a custom aluminum bracket to fit the back of the sign. 3. A new House of Lu logo sign on one of the awnings. It will be on the awning above the front door. The design will be the same as the blade projection sign; the colors will be white and reddish orange and the size will be similar to the blade/projecting sign or in proportion to the space on the awning. 4. A menu board display measuring approximately 20" x 24" to be installed at eye level between the two awnings. (Design has not been determined) ** Board member Freedman made a motion to approve the request with a variance to allow for more than one primary sign and a variance on the height restriction for the projecting sign, seconded by Board member Levine. Board member Freedman amends his motion to state the he acknowledges that the existing sign on Hansel Street will be removed as part of the renovation project and the applicant will come back before the Board for approval of a new sign of Hansel Street. * (Agenda corrected to show 7’6” is the distance between the awning and the ground) Vote: 7-0-0 20130857 Milos Restaurant Greek Taverna - 26 Mill Street The applicant is requesting a Certificate of Approval for two new signs, a wall sign measuring 22" by 96" and a projecting sign (attached to a steel arm) measuring 24" x 36". The signs will be constructed with a PVC aluminum composite material with a white background and blue (similar to the trim color) letters. Board member Johnny Fulmer made a motion to approve with a variance for more than one primary sign, seconded by Board member Freedman. Vote: 7-0-0 20130858 Milos Restaurant Greek Taverna - 26 Mill Street The applicant is requesting a Certificate of Approval to re-paint the building using white with (Cool Cobalt Blue) trim. Board member Freedman made a motion to approve the request, seconded by Board member Johnny Fulmer.
