20160891 Smart Parking Meters
Consideration to address and improve Downtown Marietta parking
Management with installation of SMART(EST) PARKING METERS on all
City Street Parking in conjunction with engaging a vendor to have turnkey
installation and subsequent management of such; to establish Parking Revenue
therefrom as an enterprise fund with net proceeds to be encumbered or
expended within two years of such for improvements (broad definition) within
downtown area; Enterprise Fund enabled to enter into collaboration with
County and DMDA for infrastructure projects within downtown area but
Enterprise Fund is not authorized to borrow money in any form; Vendor will
solicit other parking venues around the square to join in a collective effort to
manage parking as a whole and to enhance the use of the County’s Parking
deck; policing of parking will be continued as in existence with fine revenue or
cost of patrolling not part of Enterprise Fund; not a source for a parking deck or
additional parking but management of sustaining parking as is, ultimately
parking additions from leadership of DMDA, merchants, and business effected.
Goal to bid out and hire vendor by October and commence installation of Smart
Meters in Winter of 2017. To work with BLW to install 2 to 4 Electric Vehicle
Charging Stations on street parking spaces on either Dobbs St or Hansell St or
combination of both, east of Waddell St.
Requested agenda item by Councilman Fleming and Mayor Tumlin.
