The City Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, assembled on
September 10, 2012, at 5:30 P.M. to tour the Druid Hills/Uptown area
neighborhoods prior to their quarterly Neighborhood Focus Meeting scheduled
for September 10, 2012 at 7:30pm at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 725
Beechnut Lane.
Council Members present for the tour included: Vice Mayor Kimble
Reynolds, Council Member Gene Teague, Council Member Mark Stroud and
Council Member Danny Turner. Mayor Kim Adkins was absent. Others
present included: Leon Towarnicki, Andy Powers, and Mike Rogers,
Martinsville Bulletin reporter, Paul Collins, and two citizens, Sharon Brooks
Hodge, and Barbara Kirkman.
No other business was conducted during the tour and immediately
after the tour ended, Council members disbursed.

Issue: Property Maintenance-Uptown/Druid Hills
Summary:
Prop. Main.--- 287 inspections resulting from violations have occurred during the
previous 5 months.
Demolitions- ---The Demolitions list for FY 13 has been finalized and contains 15
properties.
The Property Maintenance/Fire Inspections offices works diligently to address all
citizen concerns in a timely manner unless there are occurrences where the
Property Maintenance/Fire Inspector has to address fire and arson issues which
then take priority. The office may be reached at 403-5205 and is located in Room
217 on the second floor of the Municipal Building.

Recommendations: None at this time.

The Inspections Department has conducted 287 inspections resulting from violations since the
last Neighborhood Meeting, five months ago.
Demolitions
Our department has finalized the list of properties that we will be seeking demolition for in this budget
cycle. It contains 15 properties that have been a continued nuisance for several years.
