February 11, 2013 Martinsville City Council Neighborhood Meeting for the Northside area was held on February 11, 2013, at Clearview Wesleyan Church, 925 Barrows Mill Road, Martinsville, VA at 7:30 PM, with Mayor Kim Adkins presiding and Council members present including: Vice Mayor Gene Teague, Mark Stroud, Sr., Sharon Brooks Hodge and Danny Turner. Staff present: Leon Towarnicki, Brenda Prillaman, Eric Monday, Coretha Gravely, Mike Rogers, and Andy Powers. Three citizens were present. Mayor Adkins called the meeting to order and asked Andy Powers to present his property maintenance report, and then opened the floor for public comment. Citizen comments: George Sloan, 218 Greyson-concerns about drug dealing and pit bull dogs running loose; Kathy Lawson, 909 Barrows Mill Rd.-concerns with landlords dumping contents of rental properties in yards. City staff will address specific properties and concerns as pointed out by citizens. Martinsville City Council--NEIGHBORHOOD TOUR Northside area Meet at rear entrance to Municipal Building 5:30 p.m., MONDAY, February 11, 2013 ---------------------------------------------- AGENDA CITY COUNCIL NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITY MEETING CITY OF MARTINSVILLE, VIRGINIA at Clearview Wesleyan Church, 925 Barrows Mill Road 7:30 p.m., MONDAY, February 11, 2013 Welcome 1. Conduct the Neighborhood Meeting for the Northside. (30 mins.) City Council Agenda Summary Meeting Date: February 11, 2013 Department: Inspections Issue: Property Maintenance-Northside/Chatham Hts. Summary: Prop. Main.-There has been 56 inspections resulting from violations during the previous 3 months. Demolitions- Asbestos inspections have been completed on the properties that are being demolished by the City. We will be proceeding with demolition once the asbestos has been removed. The Property Maintenance/Fire Inspections offices works diligently to address all citizen concerns in a timely manner unless there are occurrences where the Property Maintenance/Fire Inspector has to address fire and arson issues which then take priority. The office may be reached at 403-5205 and is located in Room 217 on the second floor of the Municipal Building. Attachments: Graph of concerns since last Neighborhood Tour. Recommendations: None at this time. Property Maintenance Concerns Grass Trash Inoperable Vehicles Property Maintenance Grass-3 Trash-32 Inoperable Vehicles-6 Property Maintenance-15 Property Maintenance 56 inspections have been conducted resulting from violations since the last Neighborhood Meeting. Demolitions Asbestos inspection results have been received. Once removal has been completed, the buildings will be released for demolition. February 11, 2013
