August 25 & 26, 2023 Council Meeting A closed meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia was held on August 25, 2023 at the New College Institute - The Gardner Board Room, 191 Fayette Street beginning at 8:30 AM with Mayor LC Jones presiding. Other Council Members present included Kathy Lawson, Aaron Rawls, Lawrence Mitchell and Tammy Pearson. No staff was present. Facilitators Kimball Payne and Margaret Schmitt from the Berkley Group were in attendance. Mayor Jones called the meeting to order. Council Members interviewed candidates for the City Manager position and had general discussion on the candidates thus far. There being no further business, the meeting recessed at 3:45 pm. Council Members interviewed remaining candidates for the City Manager position. Council reviewed ratings for each applicant. Mayor Jones instructed the Council Members to review their notes and provide their final decisions by Sunday.
